Overview Position Description The Brattleboro Country Club is seeking a highly motivated, experienced, and personable Head Golf Professional to oversee golf operations and help continue to grow and promote the club. The successful candidate will be a visible and welcoming presence at the club. It will play an important role in creating an exceptional golf experience for members, guests, and the greater community. The Head Golf Professional will oversee daily golf operations, tournament and event programming, golf instruction, Pro Shop operations and merchandising, while actively promoting the club and the game of golf. The Head Golf Professional reports directly to the General Manager. Facility Description Founded in 1914, the Brattleboro Country Club is a single-owner, semi-private golf facility with 18 holes and a driving range located on more than 200 acres in Southern Vermont. The original nine holes were designed by Tom McNamara, remodeled by Wayne Stiles in 1929, and expanded to 18 holes in 1999 by Vermont architect Steve Durkee. Since its expansion to 18 holes, the course has hosted a 2001 U.S. Open Qualifier, the Men's and Women's Vermont State Amateur Championships, and numerous state, tri-state, and regional events. Since 2015, under new ownership, the course and clubhouse have seen significant improvements. Ownership remains committed to enhancing this community asset, growing membership, attracting visiting golfers, and welcoming those new to the game. Experience Required Previous experience as a Head Golf Professional, Assistant Golf Professional or in a comparable golf operations position is preferred. PGA membership or progress toward PGA membership is desirable. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational and communication skills, a thorough understanding of golf operations and tournament management, retail and merchandising experience, and a genuine enthusiasm for working with members, guests and golfers of all skill levels. Essential Responsibilities This is a full-time, seasonal leadership position. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Overseeing the day-to-day operation of the golf program and Pro Shop. Communicating regularly with the General Manager, ownership, Golf Course Superintendent, and other club staff. Organizing, coordinating, and executing club tournaments, leagues, outings, and special golf events. Developing and promoting tournaments and golf programming designed to increase participation from both members and the public. Providing private and group golf instruction to members and non-members, including opportunities for junior and beginner programming. Managing the Pro Shop, including purchasing, inventory control, merchandising, displays, and maintaining appropriate stock throughout the season. Selecting merchandise that reflects the club and appeals to members, guests, and visiting golfers. Hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising Pro Shop and golf operations staff as needed. Managing tee sheets, starting procedures, and pace of play to provide an enjoyable and efficient experience for golfers. Working with outside groups to coordinate golf outings and tournaments from initial planning through event completion. Building strong relationships with members and guests and maintaining a welcoming, professional atmosphere. Actively promoting Brattleboro Country Club, its tournaments, events, instructional programs, and other golf opportunities. Assisting with marketing efforts, including providing tournament, event, and golf-program information for the club's website, email, and social media channels. Working closely with the Golf Course Superintendent regarding course conditions, tournament preparation, closures and daily play. Maintaining awareness of current golf industry trends, equipment, apparel, and merchandising opportunities. Identifying opportunities to increase participation, improve the golfer experience and generate additional golf and Pro Shop revenue. Representing Brattleboro Country Club professionally within the local community and regional golf community. Special Skills The successful candidate should possess excellent interpersonal and customer-service skills; strong tournament and event-management abilities; golf instruction experience; knowledge of golf equipment, apparel, and retail merchandising; strong organizational skills; and the ability to communicate effectively with members, guests, staff, management, and outside organizations. The ideal candidate is hands-on, approachable, and enthusiastic about growing the game of golf and creating an environment where members, guests, and new golfers feel welcome.
