This unique, year-round leadership position follows the seasonal rhythm of our business. From April through October , the Lead Supervisor will be based at our Kennebunk, Maine location during our peak gardening season. From November through March , the role transitions to our Yarmouth, Maine location, supporting winter operations, holiday sales, and preparing for the upcoming growing season. Key ResponsibilitiesOperations Assist in overseeing the daily operation of the garden center. Open and close the store as needed. Ensure compliance with company policies, safety procedures, and operational standards. Monitor store cleanliness, organization, and overall appearance. Assist with scheduling, labor management, and daily task assignments. Customer Service Deliver outstanding customer service by assisting customers with plant selection, gardening advice, and product recommendations. Resolve customer concerns professionally and promptly. Promote a positive shopping experience that encourages repeat business. Team Leadership Supervise and motivate staff during assigned shifts. Train new employees on customer service, merchandising, and operational procedures. Provide coaching and performance feedback. Foster a positive, team-oriented work environment. Merchandising & Inventory Maintain visually appealing displays of plants, garden supplies, and seasonal merchandise. Assist with receiving shipments, stocking inventory, and merchandising products. Monitor inventory levels and communicate replenishment needs. Ensure pricing and signage are accurate. Plant Care Oversee daily watering, fertilization, pruning, and maintenance of plant material. Monitor plant health and identify pest or disease issues. Ensure proper care practices are followed to minimize shrink. Sales & Financial Performance Support sales initiatives and seasonal promotions. Assist in achieving sales goals and controlling operating expenses. Process transactions accurately and assist with cash handling procedures. Qualifications Education in the field of Horticulture with a strong knowledge of annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees, and gardening products is required. 2-3 years of retail experience, preferably in a garden center, nursery, greenhouse, or home improvement environment. Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred. Strong customer service and communication skills. Basic computer and point-of-sale (POS) experience. Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, seasonal retail environment. Physical Requirements Must be able to lift and carry material weighing up to 50 lbs unassisted. The work involves frequent walking, bending, stooping, twisting The supervisor will spend much of their time on their feet handling material and moving continually. You must be able to work in all weather conditions both inside and outside (heat, cold, rain, etc.) Frequent lifting, carrying and maneuvering of material requires good overall physical strength and flexibility. This includes frequent bending, reaching, twisting, lifting, pushing and pulling of material up to 50 pounds.

Retail space is located inside and outside, and our offices are on the first and second floors of older buildings with only stairs. Fast-paced, deadline-driven setting.
