Automotive Detail / Shop Manager SkipChips - White Bear Lake /
Maplewood, MN Job Type:
Full-Time | 40+ Hours per Week Benefits Included Immediate Opening - Looking to Hire ASAP About SkipChips SkipChips is a growing Automotive Protection Products company specializing in protecting new, luxury, performance, and high-end vehicles. Our team works with individual vehicle owners as well as many of the area's leading automotive dealerships to provide professional Paint Protection Film (PPF), Window Tint, Ceramic Coatings, Paint & Interior Protection, and other automotive protection services . We take a lot of pride in the quality of our work, but just as importantly, we take pride in the team and culture we are building. We're looking for an experienced, motivated leader with a strong automotive background and great attitude to help manage our White Bear Lake / Maplewood location . This is much more than a traditional Detail Manager position. We're looking for someone who can lead people, manage the daily flow of the shop, communicate professionally with our dealership partners and retail customers, and help create an excellent experience from the time a vehicle arrives until the job is complete . What You'll Be Doing The Automotive Detail / Shop Manager will be responsible for helping lead the daily operations of the location while managing a team of detailers and automotive protection installers. You will work closely with our management, sales, operations, and installation teams to ensure vehicles are completed properly, efficiently, and within realistic promised timelines.
Daily responsibilities will include:
Leading, supporting, and managing a team of automotive detailers and installers Managing the daily shop schedule, vehicle workflow, priorities, and production timelines Assigning and coordinating work based on staffing, vehicle requirements, and promised completion dates Communicating realistic vehicle completion timelines to our dealership partners Providing proactive updates when schedules or completion times change Working closely with the SkipChips sales and operations teams to coordinate retail customer appointments, expectations, and vehicle completion Inspecting vehicles and completed work to ensure SkipChips quality standards are consistently met Overseeing vehicle washing, detailing, preparation, paint correction, ceramic coatings, interior protection, and other related services Ensuring vehicles are properly prepared for Paint Protection Film (PPF), Window Tint, Ceramic Coatings, and other protection services Helping train, develop, and hold team members accountable to company processes and quality standards Maintaining a clean, organized, professional, and efficient shop environment Monitoring detailing products, shop supplies, tools, and equipment Helping resolve customer or dealership concerns professionally and proactively Working hands-on with the team when additional support is needed Helping management continuously improve shop processes, efficiency, quality, and the overall customer experience Dealer Partner & Customer Communication A major part of this position is communication. SkipChips works closely with automotive dealerships throughout the Twin Cities, and our dealer partners rely on us to professionally manage their vehicles and provide accurate information regarding scheduling and completion. This manager will be an important point of contact for those relationships.
You should be comfortable:
Communicating professionally with dealership managers and employees Setting and managing realistic expectations for vehicle completion Coordinating dealership vehicle priorities with our production team Providing proactive updates rather than waiting for someone to ask Working with our SkipChips sales team to coordinate retail customer schedules Meeting directly with retail customers when necessary Explaining our products, coverage options, processes, care instructions, and recommendations Helping customers determine which automotive protection products make the most sense for their vehicle and needs You do not need to know everything about Paint Protection Film, Window Tint, or every SkipChips product on day one. We will provide training on our products, processes, and customer consultation approach. Over time, however, we expect this person to become an expert and trusted resource for both our customers and dealership partners. Who We're Looking For We're looking for someone with previous automotive detailing and/or automotive shop experience who is ready to take ownership of a team and location. Previous leadership or management experience is strongly preferred. More importantly, we're looking for someone who: Is a natural leader who can earn the respect of a team Has a strong work ethic and takes pride in doing things correctly Understands that leadership means helping the team succeed—not simply telling people what to do Is organized and able to manage multiple vehicles, employees, priorities, and deadlines Communicates clearly and professionally Is comfortable communicating with dealership managers and customers Has excellent attention to detail and a commitment to quality Understands the importance of realistic timelines and setting proper expectations Can make decisions and solve problems without needing constant direction Has a positive attitude and contributes to a positive team environment Is willing to jump in and work alongside the team when needed Takes pride in working around new, luxury, performance, and high-end vehicles Wants to build a career and grow with a company rather than simply find another job A valid driver's license and good driving record are required. Experience with automotive detailing, paint correction, ceramic coatings, dealership operations, PPF, window tint, or automotive aftermarket services is a major plus . Leadership at SkipChips We're looking for a hands-on leader . Our managers aren't expected to stand on the sidelines and simply direct other people. When the shop gets busy, we believe in jumping in and helping the team get the job done. At the same time, this position requires someone who can see the bigger picture—understanding what needs to happen today, what's coming tomorrow, where the team needs support, and what our customers and dealership partners have been promised. A successful manager will help create structure and accountability while maintaining a positive environment where people enjoy working together. Our Team Environment We work hard, but we also want SkipChips to be a place people enjoy coming to work. Our culture is built around an " all hands on deck " mentality. No one is above jumping in and helping another team member when something needs to get done.
We value:
Teamwork over egos Positive attitudes Quality workmanship Accountability and dependability Clear and proactive communication Taking pride in our facilities and the vehicles entrusted to us Helping each other succeed Continuous improvement Having fun while getting the job done We're looking for a manager who will reinforce that culture, not just manage the schedule . Training & Opportunity to Grow SkipChips is a growing company, and we want leaders who can grow with us. We provide hands-on training on our products, processes, systems, quality standards, dealership programs, and customer experience. For the right person, this position has the opportunity to grow into additional leadership and management responsibilities as SkipChips continues to expand throughout the Twin Cities market .
