This position is designed to step into stores where additional management support is needed, including manager vacancies, leaves of absence, staffing shortages, training needs, new initiatives, and periods requiring additional operational oversight. The Traveling Store Manager must be able to quickly assess the needs of each location, build relationships with employees, establish clear expectations, and maintain consistency with organizational standards. This role requires strong leadership, flexibility, sound judgment, and the ability to transition effectively between locations while maintaining a high level of accountability. The ideal candidate has proven retail management experience and can lead independently while partnering closely with District Management and store leadership. Significant local travel is required. Responsibilities Provide management coverage and leadership support across 12 retail locations within the organization's eight-county service area. Travel regularly between assigned locations based on operational and staffing needs. Serve as acting Store Manager when a location has a management vacancy, leave of absence, or other temporary leadership need. Support Store Managers and Assistant Store Managers with operational challenges, staffing needs, performance expectations, and implementation of organizational initiatives. Quickly evaluate store operations and identify opportunities related to staffing, customer service, productivity, merchandising, donations, safety, and overall performance. Lead, coach, and motivate employees to meet established sales, production, donation, and customer-service expectations. Maintain consistent operational standards across locations while adapting to the specific needs of each store and team. Oversee daily retail operations, including opening and closing procedures, cash handling, merchandising, donation processing, production, inventory, and store appearance. Monitor store performance and work with District Management to address areas that are below established expectations. Assist with employee onboarding, training, coaching, performance management, and leadership development. Support scheduling and staffing adjustments to ensure appropriate coverage and effective use of labor. Provide hands-on support during staffing shortages, high-volume periods, special events, store transitions, and other operational needs. Reinforce organizational policies, procedures, safety requirements, and loss-prevention practices. Ensure cash-handling procedures, deposits, POS transactions, and other financial controls are completed accurately and consistently. Assist with merchandising standards, sales-floor presentation, product rotation, and inventory movement. Identify operational trends or recurring concerns across locations and communicate findings and recommendations to District Management. Build positive working relationships with employees and leadership teams at each assigned location. Model professional leadership, accountability, teamwork, and exceptional customer service. Maintain clear communication regarding store conditions, staffing concerns, performance issues, and follow-up needs. Assist with special projects, new-store initiatives, leadership transitions, and organizational priorities as assigned. Perform other duties as necessary to support retail operations. Requirements Proven retail management experience, preferably as a Store Manager or in a multi-location retail leadership role. Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage store operations, and hold employees accountable to established expectations. Ability to quickly adapt to different locations, teams, staffing levels, and operational challenges. Strong coaching, communication, conflict-resolution, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and make sound operational decisions while maintaining communication with District Management. Experience with employee scheduling, training, performance management, and day-to-day supervision. Strong understanding of retail operations, merchandising, customer service, cash handling, inventory control, and loss prevention. Ability to analyze store performance and identify opportunities for operational improvement. Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities. Comfortable working in a hands-on leadership role and assisting wherever operational needs require. Proficiency with point-of-sale systems and standard workplace technology. Must maintain a valid driver's license and meet organizational requirements for operating a vehicle for business purposes. Must have reliable transportation and the ability to travel regularly throughout the organization's eight-county service area and between all 12 retail locations. Must be able to work a flexible schedule based on business needs, which may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Success in This Role The Traveling Store Manager is successful when stores maintain strong leadership and operational consistency regardless of vacancies, staffing challenges, or transitions.
