Overland Corporation is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment and Shop Manager for our shop in Ardmore, Oklahoma. This role involves both hands-on repair work and supervision of Mechanics and Shop personnel. The ideal candidate will ensure the fleet of heavy equipment and vehicles is maintained to the highest standards, supporting smooth construction operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervision & Leadership Lead and manage Mechanics, Lube Technicians, and shop personnel, providing guidance, training, and support. Assign work orders, prioritize tasks, and ensure efficient workflow. Monitor staff performance and address any issues promptly. Safety & Compliance Ensure all maintenance work is performed in compliance with safety regulations and company policies. Conduct safety inspections and implement corrective actions when necessary. Stay updated on industry standards and regulations regarding equipment safety and maintenance. Inventory, Repair, and Budget Management Manage the inventory of parts and supplies, ensuring necessary materials are available. Work within the department's budget, seeking cost-effective solutions without compromising quality. Coordinate with suppliers and vendors for purchasing parts and services. Manage, track, and distribute repair work orders. Review and/or approve shop repair tickets and invoices. Collaboration & Communication Coordinate with construction team to ensure equipment availability and readiness for projects. Communicate regularly with management regarding the status of equipment, repairs, and any issues that may impact operations. Track and report on key shop metrics, including equipment uptime, repair turnaround time, preventive maintenance completion rate, and maintenance cost per unit. Maintain accurate maintenance records, warranty claims, and equipment service histories. Hands-On Repair Work as Required Perform inspection, diagnosis, and repair of heavy equipment and vehicles, including excavators, loaders, asphalt paving equipment, trucks, small engine equipment, and other machinery. Ability to perform diagnostics with company provided computer. Carry out preventive maintenance and repairs to minimize equipment downtime. Ensure all repairs are completed accurately and efficiently.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; technical school or relevant certifications preferred. Minimum of 5 years of experience in heavy equipment and vehicle maintenance, including hands-on repair work and at least 2 years in a supervisory role. Asphalt paving equipment repair experience required. Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems related to construction equipment. Excellent leadership and communication skills. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record Ability to operate various types of heavy equipment. Ability to read and interpret service manuals, schematics, and hydraulic/electrical diagrams. Basic computer skills for work orders, parts ordering, and maintenance recordkeeping.
Preferred Qualifications :
ASE, OEM
(Caterpillar, John Deere, Komatsu, Volvo), or equivalent manufacturer certifications. Experience managing a shop budget and preventive maintenance program for a fleet of comparable size. Familiarity with DOT inspection requirements and federal/state fleet compliance. Prior experience with telematics/equipment monitoring systems.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 75 pounds. Ability to work outdoors and in an active shop environment in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and inclement weather. Regular exposure to noise, dust, fumes, vibration, and moving mechanical parts; required use of personal protective equipment. Frequent climbing, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and working in confined or elevated spaces. Ability to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods. Ability to operate heavy equipment and shop tools safely, with corrected vision and hearing sufficient to perform diagnostic and inspection duties.
