Job Description:
This position works within the Immaculata University Department of Natural Sciences by maintaining the proper functioning of the natural science labs. These labs include the biology, chemistry, and physics labs in Loyola Hall and in the Parsons Science Pavilion.
Responsibilities:
Maintaining the proper functioning of equipment and instruments. Maintains the orderliness of the labs and tracks inventory. Ordering of supplies, itemizing and tracking department budget expenditures. Adherence to safety regulations. Aids in the set-up of the science teaching labs. Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry or related science discipline is required. At least three years of experience operating and maintaining science equipment and materials in a laboratory or similar setting is expected. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Knowledge of and skill in using, storing and disposing of chemicals and hazardous materials. Knowledge of an ability to apply appropriate federal and state safety laws. Ability to effectively manage and direct the activities of work study students. Previous experience in working with personal protective equipment, microscopes, and other scientific equipment. Knowledge of academic laboratory requirements; skill in science equipment maintenance. Ability to organize tasks and work independently. Ability to work effectively with a staff, faculty, and students from diverse backgrounds. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to understand, interpret and use science literature and reference texts.
