An Assistant Retail Store Manager provides support to the Manager of a retail store, either an independent business or a store that is part of a large retail chain. May have primary responsibility for hiring and training retail sales staff. Reviews and monitors merchandise sales, inventory and prices, and directs advertising and promotions. Supervises sales, warehouse, cleaning, maintenance and security staff and prepares work schedules. Responsible for resolving customer complaints.

Responsibilities Support the Store Manager in overseeing daily retail operations, including sales management, inventory control, and customer service standards. Assist in supervising staff, providing coaching and training to enhance team performance and ensure adherence to company policies. Participate in recruiting efforts by conducting interviews and onboarding new employees, emphasizing employee orientation and development. Manage cash handling procedures, POS (Point of Sale) systems, and cashiering activities with accuracy and integrity. Oversee inventory management tasks such as stock replenishment, merchandising, pricing adjustments, and stock organization to maximize sales opportunities. Contribute to operational management by assisting with budgeting, sales tracking, reporting, and ensuring compliance with safety standards. Support shift management duties by coordinating schedules, supervising team members during shifts, and maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction through excellent service. Qualifications Strong leadership skills Excellent communication skills, including managerial communication and phone etiquette. Proficiency in POS systems, inventory management software, and basic math for cash handling and sales calculations. Ability to perform multiple tasks efficiently while demonstrating organizational skills and time management. Bilingual or multilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse customer bases. Knowledge of retail math, merchandising, purchasing, pricing strategies, and operational procedures is highly desirable.
