This position supervises EMS personnel, ensures quality and timely patient care, supports daily operations, and promotes compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as organizational policies and procedures. The EMS Supervisor serves as a working leader and clinical resource for EMS staff, responding to emergencies when needed and assisting with staffing, scheduling, training, quality assurance, equipment, and department performance. Pay depends on certifications and experience!Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervise, lead, and support EMS personnel in the delivery of safe, effective, and compassionate patient care. Assist with daily EMS operations, including staffing, scheduling, assignments, and coverage. Respond to emergency calls and provide patient care within the scope of licensure and certification. Monitor EMS staff performance and provide coaching, mentoring, and corrective guidance when appropriate. Promote adherence to EMS protocols, medical direction, department policies, and regulatory requirements. Assist with orientation and onboarding of new EMS employees. Coordinate and monitor continuing education, competency evaluations, and required certifications. Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities. Review patient care reports and other EMS documentation for completeness, accuracy, and compliance. Monitor response times, patient care outcomes, equipment readiness, and other department performance indicators. Ensure ambulances, medical equipment, medications, and supplies are properly maintained, stocked, and ready for service. Assist with inventory management and identification of equipment and supply needs. Investigate and document patient care concerns, incidents, complaints, and other operational issues. Maintain effective communication with hospital departments, physicians, law enforcement, fire departments, other emergency services, and community partners. Assist with emergency preparedness, disaster response, drills, and mass-casualty planning. Participate in department meetings and organizational committees as assigned. Promote teamwork, professionalism, accountability, and excellent customer service. Maintain confidentiality of patient and employee information. Ensure compliance with HIPAA and applicable EMS, hospital, and occupational safety regulations. Perform other duties as assigned.Leadership Responsibilities:
The EMS Supervisor provides direct supervision and operational leadership to EMS personnel.Responsibilities may include:
Assigning and directing work. Monitoring employee attendance and performance. Providing performance feedback and recommendations for disciplinary action when appropriate. Assisting with employee evaluations. Addressing staffing and operational concerns. Promoting a positive and professional work environment. Serving as a resource and point of contact for EMS staff during assigned shifts. Required Qualifications Current Texas EMS certification/licensure appropriate to the position. Current CPR certification. Current ACLS certification. Current PALS certification, as applicable to department requirements. CurrentNIMS/ICS
training as required. Preferably with supervisory or leadership experience. Demonstrated knowledge of emergency medical care, EMS operations, and applicable regulations. Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations. Ability to work independently while effectively leading a team. Preferred Qualifications Paramedic certification. Previous EMS supervisory, management, or field training experience. Experience with quality assurance/performance improvement programs. Experience working in a hospital-based EMS system.
