Job Description:
We're looking for a self-driven, high-energy Freight Broker who thrives in a fast-paced, non-corporate environment where results, relationships, and hustle matter more than titles and red tape. This role is ideal for someone who can think independently, solve problems quickly, and manage freight from pickup to delivery without needing constant oversight. Unlike large corporate brokerages, this position requires wearing multiple hats sales, operations, customer service, and problem-solving all in one day. Core Responsibilities (Daily Needs & To-Do's) 1. Load Sourcing & Coverage Find and secure trucks for available freight using load boards, carrier networks, and direct outreach Negotiate rates with carriers to protect margins Match the right carrier to each load based on lane, equipment, and reliability Book loads quickly while maintaining service quality 2. Carrier Relationship Management Build and maintain a trusted carrier network Vet carriers for compliance, insurance, and safety Track drivers and maintain consistent communication from dispatch to delivery Resolve issues such as delays, breakdowns, or missed appointments 3. Customer & Shipper Communication Communicate directly with shippers and customers (no call center buffer) Provide real-time updates on shipments Handle service issues proactively and professionally Maintain strong relationships to retain and grow accounts 4. Shipment Tracking & Operations Track all active loads daily (check calls, GPS, etc.) Ensure on-time pickups and deliveries Update TMS/CRM systems with accurate load notes and status Solve problems in real time (detention, lumper fees, reschedules, etc.) 5. Pricing & Margin Management Quote freight competitively while protecting profit margins Monitor market rates and lane trends Make fast pricing decisions without corporate approval chains 6. Administrative & Back-End Tasks Enter loads into TMS and maintain clean documentation Confirm rate cons, BOLs, PODs, and invoices Coordinate with factoring/accounting when needed Keep organized records of loads, carriers, and customer requirements What the
Day Typically Looks Like Morning:
Check emails, track overnight loads, update customers
Midday:
Cover new loads, negotiate rates, dispatch trucks
Afternoon:
Track shipments, handle issues, book next-day freight Throughout the day: Constant calls, texts, emails, and problem-solving No two days are the same, priorities shift based on freight volume, market conditions, and customer needs.
