Position Summary The Sales Development Trainee is an entry-level, developmental role designed to build a well-rounded, knowledgeable sales professional within the electrical distribution industry. This position provides structured, hands-on training across multiple operational and sales functions of Service Electric Supply, with the goal of preparing the individual for a long-term career in either Inside Sales or Outside Sales. The role emphasizes product knowledge, operational understanding, customer interaction, and value-based selling principles aligned with the company's philosophy of delivering competence, reliability, and measurable customer outcomes. Program Overview This role follows a progressive training path, including: Warehouse Operations (Foundational Phase) Sales Counter (Customer Interaction Phase) Rotational Department Training (Technical & Sales Development) Mentorship and Structured Product Education The program is designed to develop both technical proficiency and sales capability through real-world experience and guided learning. Key Responsibilities 1. Warehouse & Product Knowledge Training Learn product lines, inventory systems, and warehouse layout Pull, pack, and verify customer orders accurately Operate material-handling equipment (e.g., forklifts) as required Understand product applications and contractor usage Build foundational knowledge of electrical distribution products 2. Sales Counter Development Assist walk-in customers with product selection and order fulfillment Develop strong questioning skills to understand customer needs Build familiarity with contractor types, job requirements, and purchasing behaviors Process orders and check inventory using internal systems Deliver a high level of service through responsiveness and accuracy 3. Rotational Department Training Gain exposure and hands-on experience in key departments, including: Inside Sales Desk Order processing Customer communication Pricing and availability support Lighting & Project Quotations Learn job takeoffs and specifications Assist with preparing quotes and bid packages Power & Gear Quotations Understand technical specifications and product applications Support project pricing and solution development Project Management & Coordination Assist with order tracking, timelines, and issue resolution Learn internal workflows supporting large projects Additional exposure may include accounting processes and operational workflows to build overall business acumen 4. Learning & Development Participate in structured product training and educational programs Receive mentorship from experienced sales and operational leaders Develop technical, communication, and problem-solving skills Learn to communicate Service Electric's value proposition to customers 5. Sales Philosophy & Professional Development Learn and apply a value-based selling approach focused on: Reliability and execution Reducing customer risk Improving customer efficiency and outcomes Develop the ability to sell solutions—not transactions or incentives
