Turn Cold Calls Into Cargo: Inside Transportation Sales Representative
Job Description
Build Relationships. Win Freight. Help Knight Transport Grow. Are you the kind of salesperson who can turn a cold call into a conversation—and that conversation into a long-term customer? Knight Transport, LLC is looking for an experienced Inside Transportation Sales Representative who is energized by prospecting, relationship building, problem-solving, and winning new business. We are an established, asset-based flatbed carrier with our own trucks, professional drivers, operations team, and decades of transportation experience. We know how to move freight—and we're looking for the right person to help us put more of it on our trucks. This is not an order-taking position, and you won't be sitting around waiting for the phone to ring. If that sounds like your ideal sales strategy, this probably isn't your dream job. You'll be opening doors, building a pipeline, finding freight that fits our fleet, and developing customer relationships that grow over time. If you know transportation, aren't afraid to pick up the phone, and enjoy the chase as much as the win, we want to meet you. What You'll Do You'll lead the business-development side of the sales process while working directly with our dispatch, operations, drivers, and leadership teams.
Your responsibilities will include:
Prospecting shippers, manufacturers, distributors, contractors, and other freight decision-makers Creating new opportunities through outbound calls, email, research, referrals, networking, and persistent follow-up Identifying flatbed, specialized, and compatible freight that fits our equipment, lanes, and operational strengths Building and actively managing a strong pipeline of prospects and developing accounts Turning qualified opportunities into long-term Knight Transport customers Preparing competitive quotes and confidently negotiating freight rates Learning each customer's business—not just chasing their next load Identifying transportation challenges and presenting practical, reliable solutions Maintaining consistent follow-up with prospects and customers Accurately tracking leads, conversations, opportunities, and follow-up activity in our CRM Working closely with dispatch and operations to communicate appointments, lane requirements, customer expectations, and service needs Growing existing accounts by identifying additional lanes, freight, and business opportunities Meeting established prospecting, sales, and business-development goals What We're Looking For Transportation sales takes more than a friendly voice and a good headset. You'll have direct access to the people responsible for moving the freight you sell. You'll know our equipment, understand our capabilities, and be able to confidently offer solutions based on what we can actually deliver. No smoke. No mirrors. No promising a customer something operations can't deliver. Your work will be visible, your ideas will matter, and your success will directly contribute to the continued growth of the company.
