The Produce Associate works efficiently and cooperatively with other store employees to provide customers with fresh, high-quality products and a positive shopping experience. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Prepare fresh produce for sale, including cutting, trimming, cleaning, weighing, labeling, packaging, and displaying products according to store standards. Inspect produce for freshness, quality, appearance, and signs of spoilage or damage. Remove products that do not meet quality standards. Stock and replenish produce displays and sales-floor areas in a timely and organized manner. Rotate produce using appropriate stock-rotation practices to maintain freshness and minimize waste. Assist with receiving produce deliveries multiple times per week, including unloading, inspecting, counting, organizing, and properly storing incoming products. Verify that received products are in acceptable condition and promptly notify management of damaged, spoiled, short, or otherwise unacceptable merchandise. Maintain produce storage areas in a clean, organized, and sanitary condition. Monitor inventory levels and promptly inform management when produce, packaging materials, cleaning supplies, or other department supplies are running low. Maintain attractive and properly stocked displays throughout the business day. Follow proper food-handling, sanitation, temperature-control, labeling, and storage procedures in accordance with applicable health and safety regulations and company policies. Clean and sanitize work surfaces, tools, equipment, storage areas, displays, and other assigned areas regularly and as needed. Properly use and care for knives, cutting tools, scales, utensils, equipment, and other department supplies. Minimize product waste by handling produce carefully and following established preparation, storage, and rotation procedures. Assist customers with questions about produce when appropriate and provide courteous and helpful customer service. Follow all company policies and procedures regarding workplace safety, food safety, sanitation, and proper equipment use. Work cooperatively with coworkers and management and contribute to a clean, safe, and respectful work environment. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management. Job Requirements and Qualifications Previous grocery, produce, food preparation, or food-service experience preferred but not required. Availability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, early mornings, and/or other hours based on business needs. Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds . Ability to maintain well-paced physical activity for extended periods, including standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, squatting, and kneeling for up to 8 hours during a work shift. Ability to safely work with knives, cutting tools, hand tools, utensils, scales, and other produce-preparation equipment. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and established food-safety procedures. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to quality, cleanliness, and safety. Ability to work independently when assigned tasks and work cooperatively as part of a team. Basic ability to read product labels, follow preparation instructions, and accurately weigh and label merchandise. Strong attention to cleanliness, organization, product quality, and detail. Valid California Food Handler Card/Certificate , as required by applicable law and company policy. Physical and Work Environment The Produce Associate works primarily in a grocery store environment and may be exposed to refrigerated or cold storage areas, wet floors, produce debris, cleaning chemicals, and varying temperatures. The position requires frequent standing and walking, as well as regular bending, reaching, lifting, carrying, squatting, and other physical activities. Employees are expected to use proper lifting techniques and follow all workplace safety procedures. Customer Service All Produce Associates are expected to maintain a professional, courteous, and helpful manner when interacting with customers and coworkers. Employees should assist customers when possible and refer questions or concerns outside their authority to a manager.
