Position Summary The Night Supervisor oversees and supports overnight store operations, ensuring stocking, replenishment, merchandising, recovery, and other assigned tasks are completed accurately and efficiently. This position provides leadership and direction to overnight associates, maintains product availability and store conditions, and helps ensure the store is clean, organized, safe, and ready for customers. Key Responsibilities Oversee daily overnight operations and establish priorities for the night crew. Coordinate stocking, replenishment, facing, recovery, and merchandising activities. Ensure freight and merchandise are worked efficiently and stocked in the correct locations. Monitor progress throughout the shift and adjust assignments based on workload and business needs. Ensure shelves, displays, endcaps, and promotional areas are properly stocked, faced, and organized. Identify and address low-stock, out-of-stock, and excessive back-stock conditions. Coordinate the movement of merchandise from receiving and storage areas to the sales floor. Ensure back-stock is properly organized, labeled, rotated, and stored. Maintain clear and organized aisles, backrooms, receiving areas, and workspaces. Ensure merchandise is properly rotated and applicable date-control procedures are followed. Monitor product quality and remove damaged, expired, or otherwise unsellable merchandise according to established procedures. Verify shelf tags, signs, pricing, and product locations are accurate. Assist with promotional changes, resets, displays, and seasonal merchandising as assigned. Monitor equipment and communicate maintenance or operational concerns to store leadership. Ensure cardboard, pallets, plastic, and other stocking materials are removed from the sales floor and handled appropriately. Support inventory counts and other product-control activities as needed. Respond to customer needs and provide courteous assistance when customers are present. Follow and reinforce company policies related to workplace safety, food safety, security, and loss prevention. Communicate staffing, inventory, safety, and operational concerns to appropriate store leadership. Perform additional responsibilities as assigned based on business needs. Leadership Responsibilities Provide daily direction and supervision to overnight associates. Establish clear stocking and recovery priorities at the beginning of the shift. Assign associates to aisles, departments, or other responsibilities based on workload and staffing. Monitor associate progress and provide additional direction when necessary. Train new associates on stocking procedures, product rotation, merchandising, safety, and department expectations. Coach associates on productivity, accuracy, organization, teamwork, and performance standards. Ensure associates understand and complete assigned responsibilities within established timeframes. Lead by example by demonstrating urgency, professionalism, accountability, and attention to detail. Promote a positive, respectful, and productive overnight work environment. Coordinate associate breaks and coverage based on operational needs. Communicate important store priorities and instructions clearly to the night crew. Address operational concerns promptly and involve store leadership when necessary. Provide updates to management regarding completed work, outstanding tasks, and significant overnight issues. Stocking & Merchandising Responsibilities Coordinate the breakdown and stocking of incoming merchandise. Ensure products are stocked in their correct locations and according to established merchandising standards. Maintain full, properly faced, and customer-ready shelves. Ensure promotional and seasonal merchandise is properly stocked, signed, and displayed. Maintain accurate shelf tags and identify missing or incorrect pricing information. Monitor stocking progress to ensure priority aisles and departments are completed on schedule. Ensure merchandise is properly rotated while being stocked. Coordinate replenishment of merchandise from back-stock. Maintain organized storage and back-stock areas. Assist with resets, product transitions, and merchandising changes. Ensure stocking activities are completed without creating unnecessary safety hazards. Inventory & Shrink Control Monitor inventory conditions while stocking and replenishing merchandise. Identify low-stock, out-of-stock, overstock, and excessive back-stock conditions. Ensure merchandise is properly received, handled, stored, and rotated. Maintain organized back-stock to improve inventory accuracy and replenishment efficiency. Identify damaged, expired, or unsellable merchandise and follow established procedures. Assist with inventory counts and product-control activities as required. Communicate inventory discrepancies and unusual product conditions to appropriate leadership. Help reduce shrink through proper product handling, rotation, storage, and inventory practices. Ensure high-value or sensitive merchandise is handled according to established security procedures. Store Recovery & Readiness Ensure aisles and departments are recovered and prepared for the next business day. Maintain clean, organized, and accessible shopping areas. Ensure empty cartons, pallets, stocking equipment, and other materials are removed from customer areas. Monitor endcaps and promotional displays for proper presentation. Verify merchandise is faced and organized before completion of the overnight shift. Ensure assigned work areas are clean and orderly. Communicate incomplete work or outstanding operational needs to incoming store leadership. Help ensure the store is customer-ready at the completion of overnight operations. Safety & Security Maintain safe working conditions throughout the overnight shift. Ensure aisles, walkways, emergency exits, and work areas remain free of unnecessary hazards. Reinforce safe lifting, stocking, ladder, and material-handling practices. Ensure pallet jacks, carts, ladders, and other equipment are used appropriately. Address spills, damaged merchandise, unstable displays, and other hazards promptly. Maintain awareness of overnight security expectations and store access procedures. Follow established procedures for emergencies and unusual situations. Communicate safety, security, equipment, or facility concerns promptly to appropriate leadership. Reinforce company loss prevention and security expectations with overnight associates. Qualifications Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities. Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced retail environment. Strong attention to stocking accuracy, inventory, merchandising, and store conditions. Ability to learn inventory, stocking, receiving, rotation, and merchandising procedures. Ability to safely operate approved stocking and material-handling equipment after proper training. Ability to work an overnight schedule and maintain dependable attendance and punctuality. Previous grocery, retail, stocking, merchandising, inventory, or supervisory experience is preferred. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, lift, carry, push, pull, and perform repetitive movements throughout the shift. Ability to safely lift and move merchandise, cases, boxes, pallets, displays, and supplies as required. Ability to perform repetitive stocking, facing, recovery, and merchandising activities. Ability to safely use carts, pallet jacks, ladders, step stools, and other approved equipment after proper training. Ability to work in sales areas, backrooms, receiving areas, coolers, freezers, and varying temperatures when necessary. Work Environment The Night Supervisor works primarily during overnight hours throughout the sales floor, backroom, receiving areas, storage areas, coolers, and freezers as necessary. The position requires balancing hands-on stocking and merchandising responsibilities with associate supervision, inventory control, store recovery, safety, security, and preparation of the store for the following business day.
