GENERAL OVERVIEW
The Librarian/Media Specialist shall function as a leader in the learning community of the school by collaborating with faculty and staff to prepare students with information and technological literacy skills for lifelong independent learning. The Librarian/Media Specialist shall administer the library/media program in conformance with professional library standards and principles as well as local and state policies.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Plans and administers a well-rounded school library media program based on local and state policies and standards. Organizes library materials to make them easy to find, create and use databases, and research new books and materials as well as select new books and materials for purchase and manage existing collections. Serves as teacher, materials expert, and curriculum adviser to ensure that the library/media center is involved in instructional programs of the school. Works closely with teachers to integrate library resources and information literacy skills into the curriculum, as well as teaching students how to find, evaluate, and use information effectively. Promotes a love of reading, organizes book fairs, and supports literacy initiatives within the school. Ensures that materials are relevant, up-to-date, and accessible to students. Integrates technology into the library and supports its use by students and teachers. Manages use of the library administrative and instructional software, hardware, and network to enhance library services. Establishes a collective development plan to meet the needs of teachers and a diverse student population. Manages resources and hardware required to provide easy access to information. Prepares and administers federal, state, and local budgets as appropriate. Prepares required reports. Maintains a functional, attractive, and welcoming environment. Manages student behavior to maintain an environment conducive to learning. Maximizes the amount of time available in the library media center by establishing flexible access policies and procedures. Uses appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement. Maintains appropriate and required records, inventories, and files. Trains, directs, and supervises volunteers, and student assistants. Develops and implements an on-going program of public relations. Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal or appropriate supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Possess a minimum of a Bachelors degree from an accredited college/university. Must hold a valid Louisiana Teacher Certificate and librarian certification. Additional criteria may be established by the Board.
