In this position you will perform a wide variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks related to program facilitation, vegetation management, resource protection, maintenance, and volunteer coordination in relation to Regional Parks, Trails, Open Space and other City owned lands with natural resource values. You will conduct research studies, perform site visits, established environmental baselines and recommend courses of action related to the management of natural resource and open space lands.

Parks, Rec & Cultural Services home page As a Natural Resource Specialist , you will: Coordinate programs, meetings, and projects with other City divisions and departments, stakeholders, and outside agencies Facilitate and work with programs including volunteers, interns, and seasonal employees Respond to requests for information on procedures relating to Regional, Parks, Trails, and Open Space and city programs Assist with communications, outreach, and education through creating annual status reports, assisting with marketing/social media content, and assisting with tours/presentations for educational groups Provide departmental supervisor and rangers with writing research and technical support as needed Facilitate Special Use Permitting Issue and track permits for educational institutions requesting permission to perform research or other activities on Regional Parks, Trails and Open Space properties Issue and track permits for special uses on park properties. Collaborate with employees assuring the correct use and restrictions surrounding TOPS/Conservancy Easements Overall support/assistance to Regional Parks, Trails and Open Space Division employees, to include, but not limited to, field work such as small equipment use, trail work, resource rehabilitation projects or Ranger patrols. Other duties as assigned Learn more about this job by reviewing the class specification on the City of Colorado Springs Class Specifications page Natural Resource Monitoring Collect, monitor, analyze and summarize internal and externally collected statistical information and other data Work involves monitoring and evaluating resource health, use patterns, native plant populations, and noxious weed infestations Utilize GIS systems to create maps for use in resource assessments and/or public reports Collaborate with municipal, county, state, and federal organizations in matters regarding resource protection and maintenance Research and review recreational trends and their effects on natural resource properties Assist in the development, review and implementation of resource management plans Communicate with Palmer Land Conservancy or like organizations to assess and comply with legal responsibilities and easement requirements We value a diverse range of qualifications and experiences. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a related area of study Three years of full-time, professional experience in a related field The following qualifications are not required, but they are considered desirable.
