Position Summary This is specialized work of the historic preservation program for the Seminole Tribe of Florida Tribal Historic Preservation Office. The incumbent in this position is responsible for performing systematic investigations of possible archaeological sites, including excavation, field data collection, and data recording. The incumbent also works with GIS technology, software and integration of techniques to record spatial data, in coordination with the Archaeometry Section. Employees in this position may work closely with Tribal community members to document sites and the history of the STOF reservation lands. This position is considered a senior level of the archaeological technician position, and is responsible for quality control of collected data and may aid in methodological decisions. The incumbent is required to report to any one of the seven (7) reservations depending on daily scheduled project work.
Qualifications / Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, History or related field is required. A minimum of one (1) year experience conducting Phase I fieldwork and an archaeological field school is required. One year of GIS experience using ESRI applications is preferred. Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License (or have the ability to obtain one prior to hire) and be able to operate Tribal vehicles, which include 4-wheel drive trucks and all-terrain vehicles, is required. Demonstrate excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrate proficiency utilizing computer software package. Ability to travel across reservations and work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.
