In this role, you will contribute to innovative research in theoretical chemistry, advancing our understanding of physical and chemical processes in complex systems. Our research program combines the development of novel computational and theoretical methods with their application to scientific challenges of broad significance, addressing questions that are important to both the research community and society. The successful candidate must have extensive experience modeling the proteins of cardiac muscle and with such rare event simulation methods as Transition Path Sampling and Metadynamics. The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is a university-wide unit with staff and faculty across both the College of Science and the College of Medicine. Duties & Responsibilities Perform QM/MM simulations of chemical reactions in enzymes. Use enhanced sampling techniques such as Transition Path Sampling and Metadynamics.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to work with others effectively and productively. Minimum Qualifications Ph.D. degree in theoretical chemistry or equivalent upon hire. Extensive experience in applying rare event simulation methods such as Transition path sampling and metadynamics. Extensive experience in studying the thin and thick filaments of cardiac muscle tissue and how mutations that cause hypertrophic cardiomyopathy effect both chemistry and conformational change in these proteins. Expertise as evidenced by publications in major journals applying these techniques to the specific systems of interest.
