Parterre Ecological is dedicated to the planning, implementation, and maintenance of a wide range of ecological restoration projects in greater Boston. This includes invasive plant management and native restoration planting on conservation lands, urban green infrastructure sites, and numerous residential properties. We seek to restore wetland, woodland, wildflower meadow, coastal bank, and other natural areas. Projects are in all phases of development; from Ecological planning, restoration, installation, maintenance and monitoring. Parterre Ecological is currently seeking a Field Technician to join us in the implementation of diverse ecological restoration projects. The Field Technician will engage in invasive plant management, native plant restoration practices, and green infrastructure maintenance in urban environments. The Field Technician should have a horticultural background, be confident with identification of invasive and native plant species in natural areas, comfortable performing strenuous labor outdoors, and be capable of independently documenting restoration practices.
Responsibilities:
Invasive plant management, including removal of invasive vegetation utilizing manual, mechanical and chemical applications Native plant restoration techniques, including planting trees, shrubs, perennials; sowing seed; and, installing live stakes Work outdoors across varied terrain in inclement weather conditions in areas that often contain poison ivy, ticks, and other natural area hazards Use of varied hand tools, chainsaws, string/hedge trimmers, and brush mowers Document daily field activities and write Field Notes to clients
Qualifications:
Passion for plants and working outdoors with strong horticultural skills Knowledge of New England native plant communities and invasive plant species Valid drivers license and ability to travel to project sites in personal vehicle with Parterre provided tools, equipment, and uniforms Ability to collaboratively organize and prioritize scopes of work Experience with and willingness to learn varied native planting and restoration techniques Acquire DOT Medical Card the first 7 days of hire, receive vehicle and equipment training first 30 days of hire, and MA Pesticide Applicators License in first 60 days of hire at Parterre direction and expense About the
Position:
The Field Technician position with Parterre Ecological is a seasonal full-time position (typically March - December). With five (5) days of earned sick leave and four (4) paid holidays, plus one (1) paid company summer outing. Parterre offers a retirement program with company match, an Open Book bonus program earning additional pay, medical/dental insurance, training, and annual educational reimbursement. Locations(s): Main office in Billerica. Project locations are around greater Boston, with occasional trips to Cape Cod, New Hampshire, and southern Maine.
