Posting Details Position Details Title Research Associate, Biology Dharan Lab Appointment Status Non-Tenure Track Department IU Bloomington Biology Location Bloomington Position Summary The Dharan Lab in the Department of Biology at Indiana University Bloomington is seeking a highly motivated research associate to support ongoing research projects focused on HIV -1 biology and to assist with general laboratory operations. The research associate will work closely with the Principal Investigator and other lab members on active research projects while also helping with day-to-day laboratory activities. Responsibilities will include cell culture, preparation of laboratory reagents, maintaining laboratory stocks, ordering supplies, organizing laboratory materials, and assisting with routine experiments. The successful candidate will work in a collaborative research environment and may also assist with the training and supervision of undergraduate researchers. Basic Qualifications A bachelor's degree in biology, microbiology, molecular biology, biotechnology, or a related field is required. Previous laboratory research experience is preferred but not required. Preference will be given to candidates who are interested in making a longer-term commitment to the lab and anticipate staying in the position for more than one year. Responsibilities Assist the PI and lab members with ongoing HIV -1 research projects. Perform routine mammalian cell culture and laboratory experiments. Prepare buffers, media, reagents, and other laboratory solutions. Maintain laboratory supplies, inventories, and place orders as needed. Maintain organized laboratory records and follow established protocols. Assist with general laboratory organization and equipment maintenance. Help train and supervise undergraduate researchers when appropriate. Work collaboratively with graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and other laboratory members. Learn and troubleshoot new experimental techniques as needed. Required Skills Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to work independently after initial training. Good written and verbal communication skills. Attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate laboratory records. Ability to anticipate and troubleshoot routine laboratory problems. High degree of initiative, reliability, and professionalism. Willingness to learn new laboratory techniques. Timing and compensation:

Review of applicants will begin soon and continue until this position is filled. The ideal start date is October 1st, 2026. The initial appointment is for one year, with an annual salary of $43,888 and full benefits. Reappointment beyond the initial one-year period is possible based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding.
