It provides specialized expertise and strategic consultation to support regulatory compliance, accreditation, quality management, operational excellence, and continuous improvement. The position advances accreditation initiatives, builds on existing state and federal partnerships, supports collaborative veterinary research and workforce development, and positions NHVDL for sustainable growth and expanded capacity to meet the evolving needs of its stakeholders. Duties/Responsibilities The responsibilities outlined below represent examples of the types of strategic priorities, initiatives, and projects that may be assigned to this position and are not intended to constitute an exhaustive list of duties or require that all areas be addressed concurrently. Given the part-time nature of the position and its consultative role, priorities and level of involvement will vary based on available funding and budget, organizational needs and priorities, emerging opportunities, project timelines, and the employee's available time and expertise. Work will be coordinated with the Managing Director and laboratory leadership to identify and prioritize initiatives that provide the greatest value to NHVDL at any given time. The scope and focus of the position may evolve as organizational needs, strategic priorities, and available resources change. Accreditation & Strategic Initiatives 40% Work with the director and quality manager to strengthen accreditation readiness under the standards of the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians (AAVLD) Advance the labs efforts to join the National Animal Health Lab Network (NAHLN) and meet their operational and capacity requirements Assist with the review of policies / quality system processes and conduct audits to ensure compliance Support development and engagement of the Laboratory Advisory Board, including helping to define its composition, role, and contributions to the laboratory's strategic direction Cultivate sustainable financial planning that can leverage improved state and federal funding Regulatory Affairs & Outbreak Response 20 % Enhance regulatory coordination and communications with the New Hampshire Department of Agriculture, Markets & Food (NHDAMF) and New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services (NHDHHS), as well as federal counterparts Strengthening reportable disease policies and protocols according to state and federal regulatory requirements Participate in outbreak planning, response and surge capacity Workforce Assessment and Development 15 % Evaluate laboratory workloads and overall laboratory staffing needs Strengthen and provide recommendations for long-term lab workforce planning and leadership continuity Support leadership continuity and stability by assisting the Managing Director on professional, regulatory, and organizational matters Promote awareness of career pathways in veterinary diagnostics, laboratory medicine, and public health Support and expand veterinary externships and experiential learning opportunities to strengthen workforce development in diagnostic and regulatory veterinary medicine Collaborations, Research and Engagement 15 % Promote stakeholder and client engagement through outreach, implementation of client feedback mechanisms, and development of relationships that support NHVDL's services and responsiveness to stakeholders Strengthen NHVDL's external partnerships and visibility. Maintain relationships with state Public Health and other partners. Advance cross-disciplinary One Health initiatives that integrate animal, public, environmental, and economic health Facilitate veterinary diagnostic collaborations between NHVDL and university faculty, research programs, and extension initiatives Elevate recognition of veterinary medicine's contributions to scholarship, service, and interdisciplinary research

Requirements:

Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience :

Advanced degree in veterinary medicine, biological sciences, public health, regulatory affairs, business administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience Significant professional experience in veterinary diagnostic medicine, regulatory affairs, laboratory operations, quality management, academic veterinary medicine, or a closely related field

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Demonstrated experience developing, coordinating, or implementing organizational, regulatory, quality, or strategic initiatives Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and provide informed consultation to organizational leadership Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including academic, governmental, regulatory, and professional organizations Strong written and verbal communication, organizational, analytical, and project management skills
