Job Description

About the Role The Skok Laboratory at NYU Grossman School of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to study how chromosome architecture regulates transcription and gene expression. Our laboratory investigates how CTCF and the SMC complexes cohesin and condensin II organize chromatin and regulate transcription. We use acute protein degradation together with genomic, molecular, and single- molecule approaches to understand how disruption of chromosome architecture affects transcription and chromatin organization. This position is primarily experimental and provides an opportunity to pursue research within a collaborative, multidisciplinary program focused on nuclear organization, chromatin biology, and gene regulation.
Responsibilities The successful candidate will:
  • Conduct experimental research investigating how chromosome architecture, chromatin organization, and nuclear organization regulate transcription and gene expression.
Use molecular and cell biology approaches to investigate the roles of CTCF, cohesin, and condensin II in chromatin organization and transcription. Apply acute protein degradation approaches to study the consequences of disrupting chromosome architecture. Perform genomic, molecular, and single-molecule assays to investigate chromatin organization and gene regulation. Analyze and interpret experimental and genomic datasets. Contribute to collaborative research projects within the laboratory. Develop and pursue independent research directions related to nuclear organization, chromatin biology, and gene regulation. Present research findings and contribute to scientific publications. Qualifications Required
  • PhD in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Genetics, Genomics, or a related field. Strong background in nuclear organization, chromatin biology, and gene regulation. Demonstrated expertise in molecular and cell biology. Strong scientific rigor and ability to work independently and collaboratively. 1
  • Strong publication record. Preferred Experience with one or more of the following:
  • Genomic approaches such as ChIP-seq, RNA-seq, and chromosome conformation assays.
Single-molecule approaches. Analysis and interpretation of genomic and epigenomic datasets. Programming for biological data analysis using Python, R, Bash/Linux, or similar tools. Workflow automation and reproducible analysis using Snakemake, Nextflow, or similar platforms. Statistical analysis and computational approaches to studying chromatin organization and gene regulation. Machine-learning approaches for biological data analysis. Strong computational skills are desirable but not required. Candidates with a strong experimental background and an interest in developing computational skills are encouraged to apply. Research Environment Join a multidisciplinary research program uniting molecular biology, chromatin biology, genomics, and single-molecule approaches. The Skok Laboratory studies the mechanisms through which chromosome architecture and nuclear organization regulate transcription and gene expression, with access to genomic, molecular, and single-molecule approaches and collaborative research environments at NYU Grossman School of Medicine and the Perlmutter Cancer Center in New York City. Appointment The position is a full-time postdoctoral appointment at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. The position is fully supported and includes a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package. Start Date Flexible. Immediate start available.
