Position Summary:

The Chemical Laboratory Technician is a hands-on position responsible for following workflow requirements for producing permeation tubes/products following procedures and work instructions according to the KIN-TEK Analytical, Inc. Quality Management System, and all applicable safety and regulatory requirements. The individual will also provide customer application support including responding to technical questions, providing order status and delivery dates, and troubleshooting problems related to permeation tubes. This position works with the direction of the Lab Team Leader and reports to the Vice President/GM. Communication with other in-house processes is expected to ensure order requirements are met and customers are fully satisfied.

Responsibilities/Authorities:

• Follow safety guidelines in chemical handling, cylinder gas handling, and other stated activities, including wearing proper Personal Protective Equipment.
• Follow all established procedures, work instructions, and ISO Standards (and/or other applicable standards) working as a team to contribute to company success.
• Construct, fill, test, and certify various types of permeation tubes.
• Calculate, validate, and determine acceptance parameters and specifications of part numbers for order accuracy before applying to database records.
• Perform chemical synthesis for specified components following established protocol and work closely with Team Lead for yield validation.
• Verify lab stock/supplies, equipment, chemical inventory, and purchase requests are maintained to ensure continuous workflow.
• Prepare finished products for safe packaging including but not limited to finalizing, printing, and preparing proper documentation required for shipment while also reporting any schedule or product deviations.
• Provide technical support to sales personnel, lab assistant, customers, and others as needed to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Suggest and document improvements to lab work processes and work instructions, update or create documentation and safety protocols, and assist Lab Team Leader in assigned administrative activities.
• Learn, understand, and utilize database management for maintaining records and product traceability.
• Train other personnel, as needed, for continued operations.
• Meet all ISO Standard Requirements and work with KTA Management to continuously improve processes.
• Perform other tasks as assigned. Qualifications
• BS degree in a related Science (chemistry, biochemistry, physics, or related discipline) is preferred or equivalent experience working in a chemical laboratory.
• One plus year of hands-on laboratory experience and confidence with working with chemicals, reagents, gas cylinders, etc.
• Basic laboratory skills including a full understanding of safety procedures relating to handling hazardous chemicals, understanding of SDSs, and use of PPE.
• Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, for customer and team interaction.
• PC skills including database familiarity and strong Microsoft Word and Excel skills.
• A good understanding of gas chromatography concepts and calibration is a plus.
• Previous work in a manufacturing facility and understanding of quality assurance is a plus.
• Advanced mathematical skills (including knowledge in use of the metric system, conversions, algebraic calculations, and general statistics) is required.
• Ability to read, follow, and write work instructions.
• Specific visual abilities required for this position include close vision, distant vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
• Employees are required to stand and use hands, handle, manipulate, or feel objects, use tools, and controls to walk, sit, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, and lift or move up to 30 pounds with or without assistance.
