Job Description

The Nutritional Formulator is responsible for developing new formulations, improving existing products, and supporting customers through the commercialization process. This individual will work closely with sales, sourcing, quality, operations, and customers to create formulations that meet technical, regulatory, cost, and processing requirements. This is a full-time position eligible for benefits 1st of the month following the date of hire. This role requires a combination of technical formulation expertise, strong project management skills, and a practical understanding of ingredient functionality, manufacturing limitations, and market trends.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Product Development & Formulation Develop new nutritional formulations for powder blends, functional beverages, gummies, capsules and tablets, protein and nutritional systems, vitamin and mineral premixes, and custom ingredient systems Translate customer requests into practical formulations that meet target claims, label requirements, taste and sensory expectations, shelf-life goals, manufacturing capabilities, and cost targets Select and evaluate ingredients for functionality, stability, flavor, solubility, flowability, compressibility, and compatibility. Optimize formulas for commercial production and scale-up. Develop prototype batches and maintain accurate batch records. Recommend alternative ingredients when supply, cost, or regulatory concerns arise. Evaluate ingredient interactions and troubleshoot issues such as off-flavors, color changes, moisture sensitivity, separation or settling, clumping, poor flow, compression issues, and stability concerns. Technical Support & Customer Collaboration Serve as a technical resource for REPCO sales and customers. Participate in customer meetings to understand formulation needs and present recommendations. Support customer onboarding and new product development projects from concept through commercialization. Prepare technical summaries, formulation recommendations, and supporting documentation. Collaborate with customers to revise formulas based on trial results, cost pressures, or changing requirements. Assist the sales team in identifying opportunities to expand REPCO's nutritional product offerings. Regulatory & Documentation Ensure formulations align with applicable dietary supplement, food, and nutritional regulations. Review ingredients for regulatory status, including GRAS status, dietary ingredient status, allergen considerations, label declaration requirements, and usage limitations. Support development of specification sheets, technical data sheets, formula sheets, bills of material, processing instructions, stability, and shelf-life documentation. Work with quality and regulatory teams to support audits, customer questionnaires, and product documentation. Cross-Functional Collaboration Work closely with sourcing and procurement to identify ingredient availability, lead times, and cost impacts. Coordinate with operations to ensure formulations can be produced efficiently using existing manufacturing equipment and processes. Collaborate with quality and food safety teams on product specifications and process requirements. Support pilot runs, plant trials, and customer sample production.
Qualifications :
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, competency, and/or ability required. Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field required. 3-7+ years of experience in nutritional, dietary supplement, food ingredient, or functional food formulation preferred. Experience with one or more of the following: vitamins and minerals, amino acids, botanical ingredients, proteins, sweeteners and flavors, functional fibers, gummies, powders, capsules, tablets, or beverage systems. Strong understanding of ingredient functionality and processing behavior. Knowledge of dietary supplement and food labeling requirements. Experience working with contract manufacturers, pilot plants, or commercial production. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and formulation documentation systems. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Familiarity with cGMP, FSMA, HACCP, and dietary supplement regulations. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of cost modeling and margin analysis. Experience managing multiple formulation projects simultaneously. Previous customer-facing or technical sales support experience.
