Laboratory Scientist (6120) Location Missoula, MT Job Code 6120 # of Openings 1 Apply Now Ghostrock, LLC , a subsidiary of Three Saints Bay, LLC, and a Federal Government Contractor industry leader, seeking seeking a Laboratory Scientist to support the USDA Forest Service's Wildland Fire Chemical Systems Laboratory at the National Technology and Development Program in Missoula, Montana. The selected scientist will design and lead testing used to evaluate wildland fire chemicals for possible inclusion on the Qualified Products List and support continued quality-assurance testing of qualified products. Key Responsibilities Design and develop experiments to evaluate the properties and characteristics of wildland fire chemicals. Develop, validate, and document new quality-assurance and testing protocols. Research and recommend testing procedures, alternative methods, and appropriate instrumentation. Provide subject-matter-expert input on project planning, emergent issues, and laboratory deliverables. Oversee and conduct complex scientific experiments. Analyze and interpret experimental data, establish acceptable and unacceptable thresholds, and troubleshoot anomalous results. Compile results and prepare scientific reports, study summaries, and other internal and external deliverables. Perform or oversee routine laboratory work, sample preparation, equipment calibration, recordkeeping, and related technician functions as needed. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in chemistry or another scientific discipline with a strong chemistry component plus at least five years of experience working in a chemistry laboratory; OR at least 15 years of laboratory experience, including at least five years in a chemistry laboratory, without the degree. Proficiency with basic laboratory equipment and standard operating procedures. Demonstrated ability to design experiments, analyze scientific data, and prepare technical reports. Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with firefighting chemicals, including foams, gels, and retardants. Additional Requirements Strong attention to detail and strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to follow all applicable safety rules, standard operating procedures, and technical requirements. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and spend extended periods standing or walking. Ability to work on-site using Government-furnished facilities, equipment, and systems and to safeguard Government property.
