Job Description

Position Summary The R&D Chemist will lead the development, optimization, and troubleshooting of innovative, bio-based chemical solutions. This role is heavily focused on chemical synthesis, particularly organic and carbohydrate (starch-based) chemistry, and translating laboratory innovation into real-world performance. The ideal candidate is hands-on, solutions-driven, and comfortable working at the intersection of research, product development, and field application support. Key Responsibilities Research & Product Development Design and execute laboratory experiments focused on organic and carbohydrate (starch-based) synthesis and modification Develop and optimize formulations for performance, cost efficiency, and scalability Investigate structure, property relationships to enhance product functionality Support scale-up from lab to production, ensuring reproducibility and consistency Document experimental procedures, results, and conclusions clearly and thoroughly Product Troubleshooting & Technical Support Diagnose and resolve product performance issues across various applications Collaborate with production and technical teams to identify root causes and implement solutions Adjust formulations and processes to improve performance in real-world conditions Provide technical insight into product behavior, application, and optimization Support customer-facing technical discussions when needed Laboratory Operations Execute laboratory work with a high degree of accuracy, precision, and consistency Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and instrumentation Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient lab environment Monitor lab supplies and coordinate replenishment with purchasing Ensure proper documentation and organization of samples and experimental data Safety & Compliance Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of PPE and adherence to SDS guidelines Handle chemicals safely and responsibly in accordance with regulatory and company standards Maintain awareness of chemical hazards and safe laboratory practices Qualifications & Requirements Bachelor's degree in chemistry or related field required 2+ years of laboratory experience in product development or applied chemistry (preferred) Demonstrated experience in chemical synthesis required, with a strong preference for: Organic synthesis Carbohydrate or starch-based chemistry Strong understanding of reaction mechanisms, chemical modification techniques, and material behavior Experience developing and optimizing formulations for performance-driven applications Strong problem-solving skills, particularly in troubleshooting complex chemical systems Excellent attention to detail and data integrity Strong communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) What We're Looking For A hands-on chemist who thrives in both innovation and problem-solving environments Ability to translate lab-scale chemistry into scalable, real-world solutions A proactive, ownership-driven mindset with strong technical curiosity High energy, adaptability, and willingness to engage across teams Job Type Full-time Benefits 401(k) Health, dental, and vision insurance Health savings account (HSA) Paid time off Life Insurance Short Term and Long Term Disability Work Location In person
