This opportunity combines patient consultations, office-based venous procedures, and reading physician responsibilities. The ideal candidate delivers thorough, individualized care and works collaboratively with our providers, vascular ultrasound technologists, and clinical support team. Schedule
- One scheduled clinical day per week, established by mutual agreement.
- Additional availability for timely diagnostic interpretation, urgent findings, and procedure-related clinical questions.
- Remote study interpretation may be arranged where appropriate. Clinical Duties
- Evaluate and manage patients with chronic venous insufficiency, symptomatic varicose veins, leg swelling, heaviness, pain, skin changes, and venous ulceration.
- Perform comprehensive consultations and vascular examinations, documenting symptoms, duration, functional limitations, prior treatment, and relevant risk factors.
- Review vascular imaging and determine whether symptoms and findings support conservative management or intervention.
- Develop treatment plans incorporating compression therapy, exercise, leg elevation, risk-factor management, and appropriate referrals.
- Coordinate care with the practice's multidisciplinary providers and referring physicians.
- Complete timely, accurate clinical documentation supporting diagnoses, treatment decisions, and medical necessity. Venous Specialist Procedural Duties Procedural responsibilities will reflect the physician's training, credentials, and agreed scope of practice.
- Assess candidacy for endovenous treatment, including review of reflux findings, venous anatomy, prior conservative care, and procedural risks.
- Perform ultrasound-guided endovenous radiofrequency ablation and ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy, including Varithena, when appropriate.
- Perform other venous treatments, such as liquid sclerotherapy or ambulatory phlebectomy, when qualified and supported by the practice.
- Explain treatment options, expected outcomes, alternatives, and risks; obtain informed consent.
- Conduct preprocedure assessment, verify the treatment site, and follow procedural safety protocols.
- Document ultrasound guidance, treated vein segments, medications, technical details, patient tolerance, and postprocedure instructions.
- Provide postprocedure evaluation and coordinate surveillance ultrasound.
- Recognize and manage procedure-related complications, including thrombosis, bleeding, infection, and nerve symptoms, with escalation or referral when needed.
- Distinguish medically indicated treatment from cosmetic services and document the clinical rationale.
- Support clinical portions of authorization requests and appeals. Reading Physician Responsibilities
- Interpret and sign vascular ultrasound studies within the physician's qualifications and privileges, including venous reflux studies, venous duplex examinations for thrombosis, and post-ablation surveillance.
- Interpret arterial duplex studies and physiologic vascular testing when qualified and included in the role.
- Review images, measurements, technologist observations, and relevant clinical history.
- Prepare clear reports describing findings, study limitations, diagnostic impressions, and recommendations.
- Promptly communicate critical or urgent findings to the treating clinician and document notification.
- Identify technically limited or incomplete studies and request additional assessment when necessary.
- Collaborate with technologists on imaging protocols, study quality, and diagnostic accuracy.
- Meet agreed reporting turnaround times, including coverage arrangements for studies performed outside the weekly clinical day. Qualifications
- MD or DO with an active, unrestricted New Jersey medical license.
- Board certification or board eligibility in cardiology, vascular medicine, vascular surgery, or another relevant specialty with demonstrated venous expertise.
- Experience interpreting vascular ultrasound and managing chronic venous disease.
- Experience performing endovenous ablation and ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy strongly preferred.
- RPVI certification preferred.
- Strong clinical judgment, documentation skills, and interdisciplinary communication.
- Familiarity with out-of-network practice workflows and medical necessity documentation preferred. Compensation
- Competitive compensation of $2,000-$3,000 per scheduled eight-hour clinical day, based on qualifications, venous procedural experience, and the agreed clinical responsibilities.
- Separate compensation for vascular ultrasound interpretation, structured as a per-study fee or monthly reading agreement based on study volume, complexity, and reporting expectations.
- Opportunity for additional compensation through an agreed productivity incentive structure.
Schedule:
One clinical day per week, with additional availability for timely study interpretation and communication of urgent findings. Final terms will define clinical and procedural duties, reading responsibilities, reporting turnaround times, malpractice coverage, and compensation for services performed outside the scheduled clinical day.
