The Environmental Coordinator supports the goals and objectives of the Natural Resources Department for the Native Village of Nuiqsut. This position will be responsible for environmental monitoring, community outreach, grant-supported activities, reporting, and coordination related to Tribal environmental priorities. This position will also support implementation of the Tribe'sEPA IGAP
program. In addition, the Environmental Coordinator will work closely with Tribal leadership, partners, agencies, and community members to support ongoing projects and programs related to Nuiqsut's natural resources. This position also offers unique opportunities to participate in Arctic research partnerships and collaborative projects on the North Slope of Alaska, including participation in multi-year NASA-supported initiatives.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in assessing the environmental and natural resources needs/priorities of the Tribe. Provide environmental monitoring, sampling and documentation. Assist with Tribal environmental programs and grant-supported projects. Participate in fieldwork activities and community events as needed. Assist with administration and reporting activities for the Tribe'sEPA IGAP
program. Collaborate with the other organizations, agencies, and partners as assigned. Produce monthly programmatic reports and informational materials as needed. Support youth, community, and Elder engagement activities related to environmental stewardship. Maintain general familiarity with current state and federal environmental regulations. Provide communication and assistance on natural resources and environmental matters. Other related duties as assigned.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's degree from an accredited university OR relevant experience in environmental sciences, natural resources, or related field. Ability to communicate professionally both verbally and in writing. Ability to organize information and assist with documentation and reporting. Demonstrated dependability, professionalism, maturity, and judgement in performance of duties (Consistent and dependable attendance is a requirement of this position). Ability to travel to and work in rural Alaska, including outdoors and via truck, boat or ATV. Ability to complete a criminal background check. Driver's license and clean driving record.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university in relevant field. Experience working with Tribal communities or environmental programs. Experience with field sampling and environmental data collection and analyzation. Familiarity with Alaskan subsistence/environmental issues. North Slope familiarity a plus. Experience withEPA IGAP
program or grant programming and/or management.Native preference:
