Environmental Practice At Michael Baker, we consider the environment in all that we do. Our engineers, geologists, planners and environmental scientists have extensive experience providing feasible and sustainable environmental solutions. We help our clients navigate complex and nuanced local, state and federal regulations and requirements to execute projects that balance ecological considerations with community development and economic demands.
What We're Looking For:
Michael Baker is seeking an experienced Environmental Specialist to join our growing team in Ocean Springs! In this role, you'll collaborate with a highly skilled team of environmental scientists, planners, and engineers to support a diverse portfolio of transportation and infrastructure projects throughout the region. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated professional who enjoys balancing office-based technical work with hands-on field investigations. You'll play a key role in guiding projects through the environmental review process while helping clients deliver sustainable, community-focused solutions.
What You'll Do:
Support environmental planning and compliance efforts, including the preparation of Feasibility Studies, Categorical Exclusions (CEs), Environmental Assessments (EAs), and Environmental Impact Statements (EISs). Conduct field investigations and collect environmental data Prepare professional technical reports, permit documentation, maps, exhibits, tables, charts, and other project deliverables. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop practical and environmentally responsible project solutions. Assist with public meetings, stakeholder engagement efforts, and community outreach activities. Travel periodically for field assignments, including occasional overnight travel, primarily within Mississippi. What You Need to
Succeed:
Bachelor's degree or higher in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Natural Resources, or a related field. 5+ years of environmental consulting, planning, or regulatory compliance experience. Strong technical writing, communication, and organizational skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Experience with GIS is preferred. Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.
Compensation:
The approximate compensation range for this position is $59,910 - $85,047 per year. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
