https://forms.gle/gKkaueyA635Tj8op8 Explore Ecology Environmental Education Program (North and South County) Environmental Educator I or II Part-Time Job Summary An Environmental Educator's primary role is to conduct field trips and in-class lessons focusing on water quality and waste reduction, and to educate and inspire the next generation of elementary-aged environmental stewards. The Environmental Educator reports to the Environmental Education Program Coordinator. Must pass LiveScan (fingerprint background check) and TB test. Must be able to provide prompt transportation within Santa Barbara County and provide proof of insurance. Role and Responsibilities Educator I Lead environmental education lessons, both on school campuses and at various field trip sites Drive to schools and field trip sites located throughout Santa Barbara County Lead public litter cleanups 1-2 times per year Track litter cleanup data during certain lessons and events Maintain all teaching kits in a well-stocked and clean condition Staff occasional evening and weekend special events Assist and support the Coordinator in marketing lessons and field trips Additional administrative roles as assigned Educator II all tasks listed above, including: Represent the organization through specialty programs in collaboration with our community partners Assist the Coordinator with scheduling lessons and field trips Maintain the lesson database and utilize the data in collaboration with other programs, as needed Support the Coordinator in report and grant writing Work Environment In-person, with the option to work remote, as assigned Standing, bending, and stooping, for extended periods of time (up to 8 hours) Extensive contact with the public and children Walking and climbing as required Unassisted heavy lifting (up to 30 lbs) Scheduling Available 15-20 hours per week, including school hours (M-F, 8am-3pm) Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends (Saturday and/or Sunday), as scheduled Must be able to attend weekly staff meetings Required Skills Educator I Self-starter, highly organized and able to manage multiple responsibilities Excellent written and oral communication skills Ability to supervise and engage small and large groups of elementary students Comfortable working from multiple locations and traveling between job sites Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite Educator II all tasks listed above, including: Excellent rapport with children; including a familiarity with curriculum standards, and classroom activities Excellent administrative and data entry skills, experience with data management Strong teaching skills and experience in conducting in-class presentations to groups of 20-30 elementary-aged students Experience with teaching according to NGSS, including ability to design curriculum Highly Desirable Skills Environmental knowledge of waste reduction, water quality, and composting systems with an understanding of how environmental issues and ecology are related Ability to be flexible and work both independently and as a team Quick to learn multiple environmental lesson presentations Excellent interpersonal skills; able to work with coworkers and students of diverse backgrounds Bilingual Spanish/English (spoken and written) Work Experience Educator I 6 months to 1 year of educational experience with students ages 5-13 Educator II At least 1 year of educational experience with students ages 5-13 At least 1 year of experience working in a school setting or leading groups of students Education Four-year college degree (BA or BS) required or equivalent experience working in a school setting/leading groups of students ages 5-13
Pay and Benefits Hourly Pay:
