About Marine Floats Marine Floats is the Pacific Northwest's leading marina design-build contractor, providing planning, permitting, engineering, fabrication, construction, and maintenance services for commercial marinas, waterfront facilities, and high-end residential waterfront projects throughout Washington, Oregon, and Alaska. Position Summary Marine Floats is seeking an environmental permitting professional to support permitting efforts for marine infrastructure and waterfront development projects, with an emphasis on high-end residential waterfront clients. This individual will take the lead as the day-to-day point of contact for residential waterfront permitting clients, while assisting with permit preparation, agency coordination, and environmental documentation for larger commercial projects under the guidance of senior permitting staff. The ideal candidate combines solid technical fundamentals with confident, professional communication skills, attention to detail, and eagerness to learn the regulatory processes governing marine and freshwater waterfront construction.
This is a client-facing role:
candidates must be comfortable initiating and leading conversations directly with customers, not just supporting behind the scenes. Responsibilities Lead permitting efforts for residential waterfront projects, with support from senior permitting staff on more complex or higher-risk issues Support permitting efforts for commercial marina and waterfront projects under senior staff direction Prepare permit applications and supporting environmental documentation Track permitting schedules, submittal requirements, and agency correspondence Coordinate directly with regulatory agencies including USACE, WDFW, DNR, local shoreline jurisdictions, and tribes on residential projects, and alongside senior permitting staff on commercial projects Research permitting requirements and precedents for assigned projects Organize and maintain project permitting files and records Coordinate with internal project managers, designers, engineers, and outside consultants as directed Attend and actively participate in project and agency meetings, representing Marine Floats and the client's interests Support proposal development with research and administrative assistance as needed Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, planning, geography, natural resources, engineering, or related field 3-7 years of environmental permitting, environmental consulting, planning, regulatory, or related experience Confident, professional verbal communication skills, with demonstrated comfort initiating and leading direct conversations with clients or other outside parties Strong technical writing and communication skills Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines with a mix of independence and supervision Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Willingness to work directly with regulatory agencies and residential clients Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with Washington State marine and/or aquatic permitting processes Coursework or exposure to Shoreline Permits, SEPA, HPA, DNR leases, or USACE Section 10/404 permitting Interest in marina, waterfront, transportation, utility, restoration, or marine infrastructure projects GIS or ArcGIS experience Successful candidates are motivated, detail-oriented professionals looking to build a career in environmental permitting, with a strong foundation in technical writing, organization, direct client communication, and a genuine interest in navigating regulatory processes.
