About SAI Gulf, LLC:
SAI Gulf specializes in the sampling and analysis of solid fuels such as coal, coke, and petroleum coke in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico region and samples over 45 million tons of dry bulk commodities annually. SAI Gulf currently operates three testing laboratories fully equipped to provide sample preparation and analytical services for dry bulk fuel commodities.About the role:
In this role, you will contribute to the company's success in a Prep Tech position by performing support work for sample preparation such as sample login, sample breakdown, analytical testing and sample retention. Your duties will also include equipment calibration and maintenance, inventory count, and housekeeping of the prep area. Work instructions will be followed to ensure consistent quality and safety standards are achieved. Work will be performed in accordance with ASTM Standards and company policies. You will report to the Laboratory Manager and be a part of the Jasper operations.Responsibilities:
Ensure that samples received at the laboratory are accurately and completely marked, and properly secured against contamination and unauthorized tampering Ensure that samples received at the laboratory are properly documented prior to sample preparation Perform sample preparation in accordance with appropriate sampling directives and specifications (ASTM Standards, company policies, etc.) Crushing, pulverizing and splitting coal samples for laboratory work Perform Sieve Analysis determination and keep appropriate and accurate records of findings in accordance with appropriate specifications Perform Moisture determination and keep accurate records of findings in accordance with appropriate specifications Perform preventative maintenance on equipment in the prep area Ensure that instructions are communicated to and fully understood by the relief prep technician Complete all safety and other training programs required by the company with satisfactory proficiency including application of Lock Out / Tag Out procedures Ensure all personal protective equipment (PPE), relevant for tasks, is worn at all times Comprehension of all safety hazards within the workplace such as but not limited to office, manual sampling, industrial equipment, inclement weather, working over or near water, and proper use of required personal safety equipment (PPE) Conduct all activities in line with internal standards, policies, and procedures Maintain regular communication with the Lab Manager regarding job status, progress, problems, etc. Housekeeping of work area and preparation equipment using cleaning tools including the use of compressed air and/or water Assess all risks prior to performing the task at hand and work in a safe manner, reporting any accidents, near misses, and incidents to the Lab Manager Maintain awareness of current developments and conditions affecting the quality procedures Be punctual and maintain an acceptable attendance record Location and commitments: Full-time position with the primary location in Jasper, AL Hourly Shift is: Tuesday through Saturday, 1:30 pm to 10:00 pm This position may require overtime and travel A commitment to quality service is a must Technical and professional skills required: Prior experience in a Prep Technician position is a plus Experience with equipment maintenance, power tools, cleaning tools, and safety systems is a plus Ability to execute detailed written or oral instructions ensuring the end results are accurate and completed within the required time frame Ability to multi-task in a busy environment Read and write the English language, have legible handwriting, and be able to perform basic mathematics Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally Physical requirements: Stand Walk including inclined walkways and uneven / unstable surfaces Sit Lift / Carry 30 lbs.
