The United South and Eastern Tribes, Inc. (USET) Senior Epidemiologist is responsible for helping guide the USET Tribal Epidemiology Center (TEC) in achieving its mission which is to assist Tribal Nations within the Indian Health Service Nashville Area, by providing epidemiological services that support community health status monitoring, communication of health status, and public health infrastructure improvement.

Exempt/Non-Exempt and Salary Range:

The USET Senior Epidemiologist is an Exempt position requiring travel and irregular work hours, with a salary range starting at $70,413.00 per year.

Reporting Relationship:

The Senior Epidemiologist is supervised by the USET Epidemiology Manager.

Location:

Nashville Headquarters.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assist the Epidemiology Manager with ongoing support of TEC projects. 2. Serves as an Epidemiological resource for staff Epidemiologists. 3. Assist in grant writing and grant management including work plan development, program coordination, and progress reporting and renewals. 4. Participates in short and long-range TEC strategic planning processes. 5. Supports the Epidemiology Manager's overall direction, goals and objectives and monitoring performance of projects. 6. May be asked to assist Epidemiology Manager with training, scientific consultation, and career- enhancing opportunities which are consistent with USET priorities and values. 7. Serve as advisor to TEC managers and others on various public health related initiatives. 8. Help maintain TEC capacity to regularly produce and give high quality population health analysis, reports and presentations. 9. Work collaboratively with Tribal, Inter-Tribal, and private, academic, state, and federal agencies within the region and nation to ensure that comprehensive, quality health data is available and accessible to the Native American population. 10. Help guide the development and maintenance of an Area-wide system of population health related data collection, analysis, and interpretation, including but not limited to use of Tribal Resource Patient Management Systems and other electronic patient management system data. 11. Help guide epidemiological investigations. 12. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with various resources to continuously improve services provided to Tribal Nations, area and/or local level by attending meetings, conferences and/or serving on committees. 13. Engages in ongoing networking activities to remain current on the availability of epidemiological, research and training resources available to American Indians within the National Area. 14. Attends all mandatory training sessions and meetings as scheduled. 15. Attends technical conferences, seminars, workshops and other education events to remain current on technological and information advances. 16. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

1. Minimum of a Master's degree in Public Health with an emphasis in epidemiology obtained from an accredited college or university that has equipped the applicant with the specific knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. 2. Minimum of three (3) years of experience in epidemiology. 3. Strong knowledge and experience using a variety of computer programs (word processors, spreadsheets, programming languages and presentation software) and ability to learn new software applications quickly. 4. Must have demonstrable ability to work with people from diverse cultures including cultural sensitivity and the ability to work within the customs and traditions of various Tribal groups. 5. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills. 6. Ability to travel and work irregular hours.
