Innovation and R&D Consultant
Job Description
Our client is currently seeking a Innovation and R D Consultant for a contract-to-hire position. Medical, dental, and vision insurance are available to qualified candidates who meet eligibility requirements. We are seeking a motivated and hands-on Junior R D Food Scientist to join our product development team in Vista, CA. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with approximately 3-5 years of food industry experience who is passionate about innovation, product development, and sensory science. The ideal candidate will have experience working with dairy products, cheese, dips, spreads, or related food categories, and will play a key role in developing new products from concept through pilot production. This position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. Key Responsibilities Prepare and produce customer and sales samples for presentations, meetings, and workshops. Execute benchtop formulations and pilot plant trials for new product development projects. Conduct sensory evaluations, flavor profiling, and product assessments. Maintain accurate formulation records and development documentation using Excel. Analyze trial results and recommend formulation improvements. Coordinate and communicate effectively with R D, Operations, Quality, Sales, and other stakeholders. Assist with product scale-up and commercialization activities. Support multiple development projects in a fast-paced environment. QualificationsRequired Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Chemistry, or a related field. 3-5 years of experience in food product development, food science, or R D. Strong sensory evaluation skills with a demonstrated ability to assess flavor, texture, and overall product quality. Proficient in Microsoft Excel for formulation management and product development data. Experience conducting benchtop and pilot-scale product development work. Strong communication and organizational skills. Ability to work onsite in Vista, CA five days per week. Preferred Experience with dairy-based products, including cheese, dips, spreads, cultured products, or related categories. Knowledge of ingredient functionality and food processing methods. Experience supporting commercialization and manufacturing trials. What We're Looking For Passion for food innovation and product development. Strong palate and sensory awareness.
