Job Description:
Description and Requirements Job Description Role Overview We are seeking a technically skilled and operationally experienced meteorologist with a focus on fire weather forecasting to join a utility's meteorology team. This full-time, in-person role is critical to enhancing situational awareness, supporting emergency response, and improving fire weather intelligence through real-time forecasting, data analysis, and tool development. This is a contract position with an opportunity to apply for the permanent role. What You'll Do Fire weather forecasting and reporting (60%) Monitor and analyze real-time weather conditions and provide timely updates during Red Flag Warnings and storm events. Prepare and disseminate daily operational weather forecasts and fire weather outlooks, in addition to weekly weather outlooks during the summer season. Prepare and disseminate non-routine weather reports and hazard forecasts for high-impact events such as Santa Ana winds, heat waves, and winter storms. Develop short- and long-term seasonal forecasts using atmospheric models and various data sources to support proactive planning ; information relating to temperature predictions, precipitation likelihood and potential long range atmospheric conditions would be required.
