Job Summary:
Provide a full range of on-site clinical medical physics support at Highlands Oncology clinics, including conducting routine quality assurance and calibration of megavoltage therapy units and equipment, in-vitro or phantom measurements as identified and required by the facility, state or federal regulations. Responsibilities:
Works closely and in conjunction with dosimetrist and radiation oncologist during simulations and/or initial patient set ups as needed to ensure that accurate data is obtained for treatment planning. Comply with the high standards of accuracy, precision, and timeliness in all aspects of acquiring data, preparing treatment plans, secondary calculation, special medical physics consults or other related physics/dosimetrist functions for the department. Assist in the commissioning of new therapy and therapy related equipment acquiring necessary data and ensuring that all quality assurance tests follow state and federal regulations. Participates fully in the QA program for the department as well as the QA/RM program for the facility. Participates in weekly chart rounds/peer review. Assumes responsibility for verifying that computer data used for generating treatment plans or dose calculations are reasonably accurate and within accepted standards for the profession. Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Medical Physics.
Requirements Required Skills/Abilities:
Ability to work independently This position has access to confidential information concerning patients. Requires dependability, good judgment, and a high degree of professionalism. Certifications/Licenses/Education/or Experience in a related field: M.S. degree in medical physics or equivalent from a CAMPEP accredited program, board certified by American Board of Radiology (ABR) or ABR board eligible. Varian Accelerators, Varian Eclipse External Beam and HDR Planning. Proficient in
SRS/SBRT
planning and delivery procedures. Specialized training in therapeutic radiation physics with at least 2 years of experience or resident training program in medical physics. Working knowledge of SRS, SBRT, and HDR.
Physical Requirements:
Standing and Walking:
Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
Lifting and moving patients:
Ability to lift, move, and assist patients onto and off the CT table, often requiring more than 50 pounds.
Pushing and Pulling:
Must be able to push and maneuver heavy imaging equipment and patient transport devices.
Fine Motor Skills:
Requires good hand-eye coordination to operate controls, ingest contrast agents, and handle small objects.
Repetitive Motions:
Frequent use of hand and fingers for operating machinery and adjusting settings.
Bending and Reaching:
Must bend, stoop, twist, and reach to position patients and operate equipment.
Standing Radiation Exposure:
Although shielded, technologists must work near radiation-producing equipment and follow strict safety protocols. Must be able to lift 40-pound blocks to shoulder level. Must have sufficient visual acuity to distinguish structures and isodose displays on a computer monitor. Additionally, they must be able to align the treatment field and monitor patients during radiation therapy treatment.
