(Nexus) is a natural resources consulting firm specializing in state and federal permitting. Our team of scientists and other specialists routinely complete baseline characterization, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) analysis, mitigation, and compliance projects for geothermal, mining, non-profit, ranching, solar, and governmental clients within Nevada and other western states. Position Announcement Nexus is seeking an individual to fill a seasonal position as a Botanists/Vegetation Specialist based in Elko or Reno, Nevada . Duties would include but are not limited to: Conducting vegetation surveys (community mapping, noxious weeds, invasive species, and sensitive/rare plants; riparian health assessments, assisting in wetland surveys. Other tasks may be included based on workload. This position will last approximately six months , with the option to extend, and will be overtime-eligible. The successful applicant will function as a member of the existing biological team at Nexus. Work Duties Survey for vegetation species, including but not limited to the following: vegetation community mapping, noxious weed surveys, inventories and mapping, sensitive plant surveys, etc. Assisting in riparian health assessments and delineations of wetlands. Assisting in surveys for water resources, including but not limited to the following: collecting water quality samples, measuring seep/spring and stream flow, documenting field parameters, and recording field conditions. Provide technical assistance on report preparation using survey findings. Provide technical assistance on technical biological resource report preparation in support of NEPA analysis. Requirements Bachelor's degree in botany, plants/vegetation, rangeland ecology, or related field required. Post graduate degree in related field a plus, but not required. 1+ years of experience in the western United States conducting similar work required (e.g., vegetation monitoring including transect data collection (e.g., line intercept, line-point-intercept, etc.). Experience with plant identification in the Great Basin and surrounding areas. Travel up to 50% required, camping may be required. Ability to work in remote, rural conditions. Ability to work independently and with others. Ability to hike for extended periods of time. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Attention to detail and note taking. Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment. Commitment to safety and Nexus safety protocols and standards. Aerial raptor survey experience a plus. Technical writing experience a plus.
