Southern Valley Utilities - a subsidary of Red River Communications - is looking for an Underground Utility Installer to join our Outside Plant Operations team. This is a seasonal, non-exempt position based in Abercrombie, ND. In this role, you will support outside plant construction by installing, maintaining, repairing, and removing underground and related facilities (including cable and conduit placement, digging/trenching work, and restoration of disturbed surfaces) under the direction of the Outside Plant Manager, working alongside Network Technicians as needed. POSITION SUMMARY
The primary responsibilities of the Underground Utility Installer are to complete construction projects, including new installation, maintenance, replacement, and termination of outside plant fiber optic construction, in conjunction with the Plant Operations Department. The Underground Utility Installer reports to the Outside Plant Manager and assists with maintenance and repair of pedestals, poles and equipment. Assists to bury cable by digging as needed. May perform pest control tactics and removal as needed. Completes ground work maintenance as needed. May assist Network Technician with various wiring, repairs or installations as needed.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Ability to read and interpret documents such as maps and staking sheets that indicate how cable is to be placed. Advanced ability to use tools and equipment to dig, trench, and hoist properly so that cable is buried in a safe and efficient manner. Advanced understanding of operating and maintenance procedures, including use of construction manuals. Maintains right of way and restores all disturbed surfaces during and after construction placement. Receives and carries out routine service orders for engineering projects in a timely and accurate manner. Understands code standards and guidelines for bonding and grounding procedures for new pedestal and NID installations. Grounds and marks new pedestals when installed or repaired. Operates automotive and construction equipment and performs other assigned duties related to cable and conduit placement. Ability to work safely with equipment and tools needed for construction. Maintains company grounds by upkeep of entrances, walkways and any other designated areas on an ongoing basis. Completes documentation, time report, mileage and expense reports in a timely and accurate manner. Possesses a neat and clean appearance for meeting general members of the public on a daily basis. Ensures all tools, equipment and vehicles are maintained and in proper working order. If maintenance is required, decommissions the item and takes steps toward resolution. Ability to pay close attention to detail, to work independently and make sound decisions using information at hand. Removes outside plant equipment and facilities at the direction of the Outside Plant Manager in a safe manner. Assists in a supportive role to the Outside Plant Manager and/or Network Technicians. Displays a positive, professional appearance and work attitude. Displays high degree of accuracy and thoroughness. Seeks additional tasks when current work is complete. All other duties as assigned by management.QUALIFICATIONS
At least 18 years of age. Posses and maintains a valid and insurable driver's license. CDL - Class A is preferred. 2 years of heavy equipment operation with a strong safety record preferred. Ability to lift, push or pull at least 75 pounds. Strong customer interaction and people skills. Strong problem-solving ability. Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive customer data.BENEFITS
