JOB SUMMARY
The Senior IT Technician (Infrastructure / Network Support) provides advanced technical support for the county's information technology infrastructure and serves as a technical escalation point for complex infrastructure and operational technology issues. This position assists in maintaining the stability, security, reliability, and performance of the county's servers, network systems, and cybersecurity platforms while supporting end-user operations across county departments. The Senior IT Technician works closely with the IT Director to maintain infrastructure systems, troubleshoot network and connectivity issues, implement cybersecurity controls, and support technology improvement projects that enhance county operations. This role serves as a technical resource for infrastructure reliability and assists with maintaining secure and stable network, server, and cloud environments supporting county operations.
MAJOR DUTIES
Assist with administration and maintenance of Windows Server and virtual environments. Maintain and support Active Directory services including user accounts, group policies, and access controls. Troubleshoot network connectivity issues involving switches, wireless networks, VPN connectivity, DNS, and routing. Assist with firewall configuration, network access controls, and cybersecurity monitoring platforms. Maintain endpoint management and patch management systems including deployment of software updates. Provide advanced troubleshooting for escalated hardware, software, network, and infrastructure issues. Work directly with vendors and service providers to resolve technical issues affecting county operations. Assist with deployment and integration of new technology systems across county departments. Maintain technical documentation related to systems, network configurations, and troubleshooting procedures. Respond to after-hours maintenance or emergency support activities as required. Perform additional duties as assigned by the IT Director.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
Knowledge of Windows desktop and Windows Server environments. Knowledge of Active Directory administration, DNS, routing, and network connectivity concepts. Knowledge of firewall platforms, endpoint security systems, and patch management tools. Knowledge of Microsoft 365 cloud services and identity systems. Skill in troubleshooting workstations, servers, network, and infrastructure-related issues. Skill in oral and written communication. Ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues independently. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment. Ability to work collaboratively with county departments, vendors, and technical partners
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The IT Director assigns work in terms of general objectives and priorities. The Senior IT Technician is expected to independently diagnose issues, prioritize workload, and complete assigned work with limited supervision.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include county policies and procedures, CJIS security requirements, cybersecurity best practices, vendor documentation, and standard IT operational procedures. Independent judgment is required in troubleshooting and applying technical solutions.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
The work consists of varied infrastructure, networking, cybersecurity, and systems support duties requiring troubleshooting, analysis, and independent technical judgment. The purpose of this position is to support reliable, secure, and efficient operation of county technology systems across multiple departments and facilities.
CONTACTS
Contacts are typically with county employees, department heads, vendors, contractors, public safety personnel, and external technology service providers. Contacts are typically used to exchange information, resolve technical issues, coordinate projects, and provide technical support services.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
Employee may be required to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift equipment, and work around computer/server/network equipment. Work is performed in offices, server rooms, and field environments across county facilities. Occasional after-hours work may be required to support critical systems, maintenance activities, or emergency response operations.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
This position does not directly supervise employees.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION
Associate degree or equivalent experience. Minimum of three (3) years of IT support, systems administration, or network support experience. Experience supporting Windows desktop environment. Basic understanding of networking concepts including DNS, routing, and network connectivity.
