Smokers Aid - CNA

Position Summary The Smoking Aide is responsible for supervising and assisting residents during designated smoking times in accordance with facility policies, resident rights, and state and federal safety regulations. This position helps maintain a safe, respectful, and organized smoking environment for residents in a skilled nursing facility. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Escort residents to and from designated smoking areas safely and timely. Supervise residents during smoking breaks to ensure compliance with facility safety policies. Monitor residents for signs of distress, unsafe behavior, or medical concerns while smoking. Assist residents with lighting cigarettes, cigars, or other approved smoking materials when permitted and appropriate. Ensure oxygen equipment is removed and safely secured before any resident smokes. Maintain accurate smoking schedules and documentation as required by the facility. Keep smoking areas clean, orderly, and free from safety hazards. Enforce smoking times and facility smoking rules respectfully and consistently. Communicate resident concerns, behavior changes, or incidents to nursing staff immediately. Follow infection control procedures, HIPAA guidelines, and resident confidentiality standards. Participate in fire safety and emergency preparedness training. Qualifications High school diploma or GED preferred. CNA License Experience working in a skilled nursing facility, assisted living, or healthcare setting preferred. Ability to work with elderly and disabled residents compassionately and professionally. Knowledge of fire safety procedures and smoking-related risks preferred. Strong communication and observation skills. Ability to push wheelchairs and assist residents with mobility needs. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to lift, push, or assist residents according to facility policy. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions during smoking breaks. Work Environment Skilled nursing and long-term care facility environment. Frequent exposure to outdoor weather and secondhand smoke. Schedule Full-time, part-time, and weekend shifts may be available. Holidays and rotating schedules may be required.
