JOB DESCRIPTION
The Town of Carrboro, NC is seeking a Planning Director to provide executive leadership for Carrboro's Planning, Zoning, and Inspections Department, overseeing long-range and current planning, zoning, development review, permitting, inspections, watershed and floodplain management, transportation planning, and major strategic initiatives. Responsibilities include departmental leadership, staff supervision, budget and contract administration, policy and ordinance development, regulatory compliance, community engagement, and advising Town Council and boards. Requires extensive knowledge of municipal planning, land use, zoning, development regulations, community engagement, and transportation. Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, or a related field; seven years of progressively responsible planning or land use experience; and four years of supervisory experience, including senior-level leadership and budget administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A master's degree and local government leadership experience are preferred.
