Christchurch City Council is offering an Environmental Planning Internship within our Environmental Planning Team. Rather than focusing on a single project, this internship is designed to provide broad exposure to the day-to-day work of environmental planners and the implementation of resource management legislation. You'll gain practical experience across a variety of planning and environmental activities while building your understanding of how local government operates and delivers services to the community. About the opportunity | Ko te whai wāhitanga nei The Environmental Planning Team operates much like an internal consultancy, providing specialist planning advice and environmental expertise to Council teams delivering projects and services across Christchurch. Throughout the internship, you'll work alongside experienced planners, supporting a range of internal clients from across the organisation. This means you'll gain insight into both the local government environment and the consulting-style approach used to provide professional advice, manage risk, solve problems, and support project delivery. Over the course of the internship, you'll progress from observation and guided learning through to completing draft work for review and feedback. Depending on operational priorities and your developing capability, you may assist with planning reviews, environmental risk assessments, spatial searches, research activities, policy interpretation, information gathering, and process improvement initiatives. You'll see first-hand how planning and environmental considerations are applied to real Council projects and decisions. About you | Ko Koe Tēnei This opportunity is ideal for a student or recent graduate studying environmental planning, environmental studies, environmental science, resource management law, public policy, geography, GIS, or another land development-related discipline. We're looking for someone who is curious, analytical, eager to learn, and comfortable working with detailed information. You'll have strong written and verbal communication skills, enjoy problem-solving, and be confident asking questions to build your understanding. • This role will start on the 9th of November for a fixed term period of 3 months. Minimum 24 hours (3 days) per week, with the opportunity to work full-time Location
• This position is primarily based at Te Hononga, Christchurch City Council Civic Offices, 53 Hereford Street Pay-rate
• Christchurch City Council Interns are paid the living wage
