Job Description
The City of Cincinnati's Department of Economic Inclusion is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Compliance Intern for the Summer of 2026 (Seasongood Program) to support efforts aimed at enhancing transparency, consistency, and adherence to internal procedures. This internship provides meaningful, hands-on experience in municipal compliance, policy development, and internal process documentation , and is ideal for students studying Business Law, Public Administration, Compliance, Political Science, or a related field. This role will be a great fit for someone interested in how policy, compliance, small business support, and communication intersect in a public sector setting—and offers a chance to leave a lasting operational resource for the department. Interns/Co-ops/Externs for the City of Cincinnati may perform duties in any potential field within the City's structure. These fields may include office level work/assignments, field work, and/or civic services. The nature of the work will be based on areas of interest, degree program, or organizational need. Candidates should have the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Primary Responsibilities:
Drafting and editing content related to internal policies, compliance updates on inclusion forms, and procedural communications for newsletters, the City's website, and other internal channels. Reviewing and updating website content to ensure it accurately reflects current departmental policies and standards. Updating the comprehensive Policies and Procedures Manual for the Economic Inclusion Department by gathering, organizing, and formalizing existing documents from shared drives and other internal resources. Identify and design Business Workshops, playing a vital role in empowering local entrepreneurs by researching emerging market trends and organizing hands-on workshops that provide small business owners with the practical tools and strategic insights they need to thrive. Market and recruit small to businesses encouraging them to be a city certified firm. Additional responsibilities may include assisting with the Business Enterprise Expo by maintaining registration, sponsorships and creating workshop tools. In order to qualify for the Intern/Co-op/Extern Program, a student must: Be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or a non-citizen with proof of eligibility to work in the United States Individuals under eighteen will require a work permit Be enrolled in an accredited institution Submit a City job application for employmentIntern Eligibility:
Interns should be college students ideally transitioning between sophomore and junior years or junior and senior years; however, graduate students are also eligible.Preferred Qualifications:
Strong writing, editing, and organizational skills Detail-oriented, with a focus on accuracy and consistency Ability to interpret and document processes clearly and concisely Familiarity with digital content management tools and file organization systems Self-motivated with the ability to manage independent projects Currently enrolled specifically in Business Law, Public Administration, Compliance, Political Science, or a related field programHR Contact:
