Full-time Position Overview Gammage & Burnham, PLC, a well-established Arizona law firm, is seeking a talented and motivated Land Use and Zoning Planner to join our highly regarded Land Use and Zoning Practice Group. We represent clients throughout Greater Phoenix and across Arizona in complex land use, zoning, development, and entitlement matters, including urban high-rises, mixed-use projects, master-planned communities, public-private partnerships, development agreements, referendums, and land use litigation. This position offers the opportunity to collaborate with experienced attorneys, planners, government officials, elected officials, and industry professionals while helping clients navigate the land use approval and development process. The successful candidate will be an effective communicator and a dependable, self-directed professional who can manage multiple priorities, contribute both independently and as part of a team, and work in the office four days per week, once fully trained. Key Responsibilities
- Perform zoning due diligence and research, prepare zoning and entitlement applications, and support other land use matters for firm clients.
- Analyze complex planning, zoning, and development proposals and develop and present clear recommendations.
- Work directly with senior planners and attorneys on client matters and project strategy.
- Prepare maps, presentation materials, and other graphics, including PowerPoint presentations.
- Communicate and coordinate with clients, engineers, architects, planners, public agencies, contractors, project stakeholders, and members of the public.
- Attend neighborhood meetings, public hearings, and other meetings as needed.
- Meet an annual billing requirement of 1,400 hours. Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Urban Planning, Urban Studies, Public Policy, Geography, Environmental Studies, Real Estate Development, or a related field.
- Five or more years of experience as a land planner in the public or private sector, or equivalent relevant experience. Internship or real estate experience is preferred.
- Strong academic record, professional judgment, enthusiasm, and commitment to becoming an integral member of the firm.
- Knowledge of planning, zoning, land use, comprehensive planning, and the customary stages of property development from both public- and private-sector perspectives.
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret technical written materials, plans, diagrams, blueprints, specifications, and grading plans.
- Experience assisting with the evaluation of rezoning applications, ordinance amendments, site plans, use permits, variances, and related proposals.
- Ability to prepare clear, accurate reports, memoranda, documentation, and client correspondence.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
- Strong writing, research, analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Benefits
