Job Description

City Year seeks AmeriCorps Members to serve full-time in public schools, supporting students' academic and social-emotional growth. In this education-focused role, you'll provide tutoring, mentor students, assist in classrooms, and lead small-group interventions. You'll collaborate with school staff and a diverse team to create a positive learning environment. City Year offers comprehensive training, leadership development, and exposure to education and youth development careers in a mission-driven, inclusive culture dedicated to advancing educational equity. Responsibilities Provide one-on-one and small-group academic tutoring to students during and after school Support classroom instruction and behavior management in partnership with teachers Foster positive relationships with students to encourage engagement, attendance, and social-emotional growth Track and report student progress using established tools and data systems Help plan and lead school-wide events, enrichment, and after-school programs Collaborate with a diverse City Year team and school staff to align student support Participate in ongoing training, reflection, and professional development sessions Model inclusive, respectful behavior and promote a positive school climate Communicate regularly with supervisors and school partners about student needs Support outreach to families and the school community as needed Required Skills Tutoring and academic support Classroom management support Youth mentoring and relationship-building Basic data entry and progress tracking Time management and organization Communication with students, staff, and families Teamwork and collaboration Cultural competence and sensitivity Conflict de-escalation basics Facilitation of group activities
