Job Description

Learning to Thrive is seeking a compassionate, motivated, and dependable Job Coach / Trainer to support adults with developmental disabilities in achieving their self-identified employment goals throughout Yuba City and surrounding communities. As a Job Coach / Trainer , you will work directly with individuals to identify and pursue meaningful employment opportunities that align with their interests, abilities, and career goals. You will research and develop community-based employment opportunities, provide individualized job coaching and training, and build relationships with local businesses to expand employment opportunities for the people we support. The ideal candidate is someone who believes in the abilities of people with developmental disabilities and is passionate about promoting independence, inclusion, self-determination, and meaningful employment .
Summary of Job Duties:
  • Under the supervision of the Program Director, Program Coordinator, conducts job search and job development activities leading to Competitive Integrated Employment (CIE), Paid Internship and Customized Employment opportunities that are suited to each client's individual needs, skills, and desires.
  • Communicates and networks with employers, employment groups, community groups, and funding agencies to develop and maintain the necessary work relationships to ensure the success of client placements and follows up on all leads.
  • Works cooperatively with and shares information with Program Management to coordinate the timely and successful placement of participants in jobs of their choice.
  • Completes job development planning and ongoing activity reporting documentation with all assigned clients.
  • Meets personally with clients to determine desired areas of employment and job development goals immediately following enrollment into the program and maintaining communication at least weekly thereafter and as needed.
  • Provides employment preparation training in the areas of preparing for an interview, interviewing skills, and job retention to all clients on caseload.
  • Documents job development activity and outcomes in the client's electronic case management system according to program guidelines.
  • Communicates with assigned clients as required by program guidelines and expectations.
  • Provides work site specific information on job duties, employer requirements and expectations to Program Manager to secure and ensure successful job coaching of new placements.
  • Ensures all potential work sites follow Learning to Thrives guidelines and external regulatory requirements (i.e., Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Act, DFEH and Commission for the Accreditation of Community Rehabilitation Educators (ACRE).
  • Attends meetings and events as a representative of Learning to Thrive to promote and market Learning to Thrive to potential employers.
  • Participates in client and program meetings as required.
  • Ensures safety and welfare of staff and clients and follows adopted procedures to report any incidents, hazards, accidents, or unsafe conditions to their immediate supervisor.
  • Proactively and effectively communicates all client and/or employer-related issues to Employment Services management.
  • Demonstrates and promotes the organization's Vision, Mission, and Core Values daily.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Associate's degree in business or a related field from an accredited college/university or equivalent with two (2) years of experience working in sales, marketing, job development or placement services preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge about the vocation and career-related concerns of I/DD participants and
  • At least one (1) year of experience working with individuals with I/DD preferred.

ADDITIONAL EXPECTATIONS
Use of sound judgment at all times Ability to follow written and verbal directions in English Ability to speak clearly and succinctly in English and in a manner that can be heard across a room through normal noise levels of the Day Program environment Ability to effectively use basic computer programs (MS Office, Internet, Email) Ability to type documents (approx. 30 words per minute) and save to appropriate locations Ability to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods of time throughout the entire work day Ability to lift and carry up to 25lbs independently Ability to offer exceptional customer service to staff members, participants, family members, care providers, Regional Center representatives, community members and others Participation in all staff meetings and trainings per request of management or be able to acquire meeting/training materials and demonstrate adequate knowledge and understanding of materials
Job Requirements:
Must be a minimum of 21 years old at the time of hire Proof of clearance through the Department of Justice via Livescan Department of Motor Vehicle Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) Possession of a current certificate in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Possession of a current certificate in Standard First aid (SFA). Proof of passing a pre-placement physical and back assessment. Proof of negative TB test within the past twelve (12) months.
