Employment Specialist

Job Description

The Arc of The Wabash Valley is a nationally accredited non-profit organization committed to empowering individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. For over 60 years we have provided personalized support in both home and community settings. We also specialize in employment acquisition and retainment. As an Employment Specialist / Job Coach, you will play a vital role in transforming the lives of our consumers by ensuring they gain meaningful, long-term employment. The ideal candidate will be passionate about fostering independence and inclusivity in the workplace. Position will start at $20.00 per hour.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide hands-on support and management to enhance job-related skills and performance
  • Provide supervision at employment locations if / when needed
  • Maintain regular communication with employers, offering continuous support and problem-solving
  • Engage with the community to promote positive interactions and opportunities for consumers.
  • Manage and maintain accurate consumer records, including Individual Program Plans, Monthly Reports, and Progress Reports.
Qualifications:
    Related Experience:
    Minimum of 2 years working directly with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
      Education:
      High school diploma or GED Equivalent required; Associate's degree or higher in related fields preferred.
        Certification:
        Employment Specialist Certification OR willingness to obtain within the first year of employment. Existing certification preferred
          Skills:
          ○ Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective interaction with consumers, employers, and community members. ○ Proficiency in creating and maintaining detailed documentation and reports ○ Knowledge in employment-related resources and local community services. ○ Proven training skills in a professional environment encouraged
            Technical Proficiency:
            Competency in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other relevant software.
              Personal Qualities:
              ○ Compassionate and patient demeanor with a commitment to supporting individuals in achieving their career goals. ○ Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing situations. ○ Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Compensated overtime
              Schedule:
              40 Hour Client Needs Based Schedule with hybrid Office and Job Site Environment. for 41+ Hours.
