Employment Specialist -
Billings, MT Pay:
$22.00 per hour
Job Type:
Full-time Looking for a career with purpose? Montana Employment Consultants is seeking a full-time Employment Specialist to join our Billings team. This position provides individualized, creative employment services to people with disabilities as they prepare for, obtain, and maintain meaningful community employment. This is primarily a community-based position, although we have a central office location. Most of your workday will be spent meeting with job seekers and employers in businesses throughout Billings and the surrounding communities rather than working from an office.
Required Schedule Monday & Friday:
9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday:
10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Applicants must be able to consistently work the schedule outlined above. Experience working with people with disabilities is required. The ideal candidate is compassionate, dependable, and able to build genuine relationships with clients, employers, families, and community partners. Excellent verbal communication skills are essential to build relationships with employers, teach interviewing skills, and diplomatically address concerns raised by job seekers, employers, and state agencies. Strong writing skills are essential for daily documentation, resume development, and professional communication. Applicants should be comfortable using computers, Microsoft Office, and emerging workplace technologies, including AI tools, to improve productivity, assist with resume and cover letter development, research employers, and complete documentation while maintaining confidentiality and professional judgment. This position includes providing on-site job coaching and training in community workplaces. Employees should be able to stand for up to 2-3 hours at a time while providing support and occasionally lift up to 40 pounds as part of assisting clients in a variety of work settings. A valid Montana driver's license, reliable transportation, an acceptable driving record, and the ability to pass a criminal background check are required. Employees must also be willing to obtain CPR and First Aid certification. Mileage is reimbursed at the current federal reimbursement rate for approved work-related travel. There may be occasional transportation of clients to employment-related or community-based activities. Learn more about our growing organization at www.mtemployment.net . Responsibilities Provide individualized employment services, including career exploration, resume development, job applications, interview preparation, and on-the-job support. Develop employment opportunities by building relationships with local employers and proactively contacting prospective employers to identify new job opportunities. Assess each client's strengths, interests, and support needs to develop individualized employment plans. Assist clients in obtaining and maintaining competitive integrated employment. Strong organizational and time management skills are critical to success in this position. Employment Specialists typically manage an active caseload of approximately 20 clients, balancing appointments, employer contacts, documentation deadlines, follow-up activities, and individualized employment services while ensuring each client receives timely, high-quality support. Maintain current knowledge of employment resources, labor market trends, and relevant employment laws and regulations. Communicate professionally with clients, families, employers, Vocational Rehabilitation counselors, and other referral sources. Travel throughout Billings and surrounding communities, including Hardin and Roundup, to meet with clients and employers in a variety of community settings.
