Job Description

Overview We're hiring a reliable, physically strong, and highly motivated lead personal care attendant for a business owner. An active, high-functioning C5/C6 quadriplegic who has directed his own attendant care since 1984. His previous lead attendants were with him for over 30 years. We are hiring the next one. This is not a passive caregiving job. It requires physical strength, emotional maturity, and personal accountability. You will support both physical needs and daily routines with professionalism and a get-it-done attitude. He directs all aspects of his care; there is no medical fragility, and the work is hands-on, interactive, and varied. Schedule Start at 5:00 AM every day. The morning routine (transfers, bathing, bowel program, dressing, medications, breakfast) is the heaviest part of the day. After that you are on call by phone for the rest of the day. Seven days a week with every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) off. Holidays and travel (essential) You must be available to work all major holidays and your own birthday, wherever the client is. You must be willing and able to travel with him frequently, sometimes for a week or longer at a time, and be away from home and family during those trips. Travel dates are communicated as far in advance as possible. Responsibilities Safely perform full-body transfers of a 200 lb adult by hand using proper technique (no lift equipment) Assist with all activities of daily living: bathing, hygiene, grooming, dressing, and toileting Carry out a scheduled bowel program, including digital stimulation, respectfully and professionally (training provided) Manage medications and medical supplies; basic first aid as needed Cook meals and assist with eating according to his preferences Housekeeping, laundry, and keeping the home clean, safe, and organized Drive his van and your own car for errands, appointments, and travel Maintain and repair the wheelchair and the lift on his vehicles Follow detailed instructions and document tasks when needed Engage in friendly, respectful conversation and social interaction Family home This is work inside a family home. You are expected to treat his wife and family with respect and courtesy at all times, keep what happens in the home private, and understand that you are a guest in their house. Who succeeds in this role Someone who is self-motivated and doesn't need to be told twice; dependable and on time every day; organized and steady under pressure; coachable and willing to learn exactly how he needs things done; honest, discreet, and accountable; and proactive enough to anticipate needs and stay a step ahead. Qualifications Able and willing to lift and transfer a 200 lb adult without assistance or lift equipment Male attendant required due to intimate personal care Comfortable assisting with bowel care that includes digital stimulation (training provided) Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and your own dependable car Non-smoker, no drug use; drug test and background check before hire, references required No personal phone use while working Able to cook and keep a clean, organized house Experience with individuals with physical disabilities strongly preferred; prior home care, nursing, or group home work a plus CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain Mechanical aptitude and spinal cord injury experience are strong pluses Must meet the schedule, holiday, and travel requirements above No live-in. Full training provided by the owner and current team, with a paid trial period. This is long-term work with one person, not agency shifts.
