Saint Cloud, FL Position Overview The Direct Care Staff supports clients with mental health and substance use disorders in completing daily treatment tasks and activities of daily living. This role performs basic intervention functions, assists facility treatment staff, and helps maintain a peaceful, safe, and structured environment for clients and the facility. Key Responsibilities The following duties represent the primary responsibilities of this position. Additional duties may be assigned as operational needs require. Assist and supervise clients with daily activities, treatment-related tasks, and facility routines. Maintain the safety, security, and welfare of clients, staff, visitors, and the facility. Transport clients to appointments and approved activities using a 15-passenger van. Observe client self-administration of medication and maintain required medication counts and documentation. Conduct client intakes, housing inspections, counts, searches, and other safety checks as required. Maintain accurate reports, logs, electronic health record entries, and other required documentation. Enforce facility policies, procedures, sanitation standards, and safety requirements. Respond appropriately to incidents, client concerns, and potential medical needs while maintaining professionalism and composure. Required Qualifications Education High School Diploma or GED required. Experience Experience in behavioral health, substance use services, residential programs, direct care, or a related setting is preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with clients in a structured treatment environment. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Stress management and composure.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, teamwork, and communication skills.
  • Ability to prepare accurate reports, forms, and logs.
  • Ability to follow and enforce policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism in stressful or emergency situations.
  • Ability to lift and move items over 50 pounds and remain active throughout the shift.
Licenses / Certifications
Valid Florida driver's license required.
  • Must have held a valid driver's license for at least five years. Preferred Qualifications One year of college or vocational school preferred.
  • One year of behavioral health or substance use disorder experience preferred.
  • Behavioral Health Technician Certification preferred.
Work Environment This position operates in a residential behavioral health environment and may involve exposure to physically challenging, stressful, or hazardous situations.
Responsibilities may include:
Working within secure or structured program environments
  • Interaction with clients receiving mental health or substance use services
  • Exposure to bloodborne or airborne pathogens, loud noise, or verbal/physical confrontation
