Direct Care Worker Department or section job located: Facility dormitories and grounds Reports to:Administrator, Quality Control Coordinator, and Direct Care Supervisor Introduction:
Incumbent performs his duties under the direct supervision of the DCW Supervisor. The duties of this position require direct and continuous contact with youth in confinement who are suspected of or convicted of offenses against the laws of the State of Louisiana. This position has direct contact with other components of the juvenile justice system, and the juvenile social service system; and is expected to be responsive to their needs and requirements; may be required to work rotating shifts, to include weekends and holidays; is subject to call in case of emergency; must be familiar with the facility emergency plan and physical plans.Primary Duties and responsibilities:
Caretaker to our youth- Protecting the rights of the youth and safety of the youth
- Supervises the youth and ensures daily needs of the youth
- Responsible for monitoring youth individual service plan
- Reporting critical incidents to administrative staff or direct care supervisor
- Provide counseling to youth and teach daily social skills to youth
- Ensures the accountability and supervision of youth whereabouts at all times
- Enforce the youth rules and regulations of the facility
- Ensure the custody, safety, and well-being of youth
- Responsible for guiding youths conduct, implementing facility rules and regulations, and implementing goals of treatment plans; may be group leader for LAMOD groups.
- Act as an appropriate role model for youth
- Participates as a member of the youth program team and is involved in LAMOD process and staffing of youth
- Assist youth to keep issues and situations clear while making decisions
- Operates facility vehicles and the transportation of youth to appointments and approved outings
- Responsible for facility cleanliness and supervision residents during chores
- Keeps appropriate medication records
- Makes entries as appropriate in daily log book
- Completes incident reports and daily reports/logs on youth Eduational requirements for this position: High School Diploma or its equivalent Expierence requirements for this position: successful experience working with children and adolescents Certification/Licensing requirements for this position: Must be 21 years of age, valid Louisiana Class D or Class E Driver's License or obtain license within 30 days; must complete CPR/AED/First Aid training, Mandatory Reporter, CPI, PREA training
